Maybe trust has been eroded by infidelity or you’ve experienced some kind of marital trauma.
Supervised by Russ Bartee, PhD, LPC-S - You’re trapped in a unhappy marriage. You thought you were marrying the person of your dreams. Feelings of love, excitement and hope for a wonderful life together have been replaced with pain, anger, and loneliness. Your efforts to make it better have led to more conflict and you feel misunderstood and more alienated than ever.

I am not currently accepting new clients until July 2023. I enjoy working with adult couples who are in need of rekindling their fire that used to burn bright. Some of the reasons for this dimness stem from miscommunication, lack of intimacy/issues surrounding intimacy, or loss of trust due to infidelity or sex addiction. I am also interested in working with individuals, along with their significant other, who are experiencing difficulties fitting into gender norms and are wanting to explore their true selves.

I have experience counseling clients reporting anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, adolescent adjustment, & relational issues (domestic disagreements, infidelity & sexuality issues).
Are the dynamics of a specific relationship affecting other areas of your life? Or is something personal affecting your important relationships? Because relationships are the building blocks of life, they have the power to affect your happiness & well-being. It seems that creating a balance of love & trust between people in relationships enhances the individuals' hopes for the future of the relationship overall. Couple relationships function best when give & take is balanced & when relational fairness is made a priority. Other family relationships are similar & should also be fair & balanced in how individuals give & take & relate with one another.

I specialize in betrayal trauma.
In this uncertain world today, you may feel hopeless, anxious, or just feel like something is not right. I can help you heal by utilizing your soul’s ability to naturally heal through "downloading" new skills, mindfulness and meditation. Neuroplasticity, our mind's ability to adapt and change can lead to a better way of thinking, feeling and reacting. My clients find they have more power than they think, becoming more comfortable with themselves and their decisions. Life is full of ups and downs, and it takes courage to begin your journey of personal growth...you can do this.

Along my journey, I have gained training and experience treating a variety of problems including, treatment for PTSD/Trauma, porn/sex addiction, marriage discord/ betrayal , family conflict, substance abuse, anger management and anxiety.
Years ago, I use to think 'Counseling is for birds! I assumed, erroneously, only ‘truly disturbed' people needed a counselor. Boy was I wrong! When I went through a difficult time in my life, I realized I needed some guidance. I found a counselor who helped me discover answers I needed for my journey. Along my way, I came to realize, everyone, now and then, may find themselves in a tough spot and need some guidance. It's not an admission of weakness. It's the recognition that at times, we alone don't have all the answers. Counseling can help and I welcome the opportunity to join you on your healing journey to wholeness.

Things like fear, depression, emotional pain, trauma, panic, betrayal , loss, confusion, and hopelessness.
I really love to work with people who find themselves at a place where something has to give....where staying the same is no longer an attractive option. It may feel like your relationship is stuck in a bad place, or that your family is spun out of control, or that you simply are not the best version of yourself. I work best with those who are ready to take a long honest look at the things that are hard to see..... those who are willing to be brave and learn how to create something different in their lives.

I specialize in three types of clients - couples hanging on by a thread, men who are less than thrilled at the idea of attending therapy, and individuals that live under a constant state of performance pressure. As someone who has lived and survived all three of these scenarios personally, I've got a ton of empathy and a box of tools ready for people motivated to achieve change. Whether you're picking up the pieces from infidelity , exhausted from fighting about the same tired topics, or struggling to escape the voices in your head that beat you down, I'm honored to pull up a chair next you and begin sorting through the mess.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
