My name is Conor Hawley I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I enjoy working with both adults and
children
. I believe in utilizing an ecelitic blend of techniques to fit the person. As one thinks of change an individual might not want the same perspective used, I believe that something different can be used. A different approach can help to instill change. I would like to enjoy having a conversation with you and you being apart of a process.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” I love this saying. It makes the unreachable seem reachable--if even one small step at a time. As long as you’re making a step--no matter how small--in the right direction, you’re making progress. If you continue long enough, you will see a difference. I use this approach, coupled with solution-focused therapy, in how I work with clients. Together, we’ll make what you want a reality. We’ll take the small step approach (although big steps are fine, too!) and utilize the strengths you already have.

In our lives, there is not always an obvious path. Choices and decisions can be extremely confusing. You may wonder, "How did I end up here?" Therapy can offer incredibly important moments of reflection and insight. My goal, as your therapist, is to invite you into the process of paying attention, being heard, and discovering your needs. Therapy requires trust, and the relationship that emerges between us will hopefully be significant and meaningful in your life.

At times life provides us with the opportunities that enable us to grow and accomplish. However, at times it also presents itself in the form of a challenge. These life events can take a toll on our mental health and leave us feeling hopeless, unmotivated, lost, and stuck. I am passionate and confident in my ability to make a difference in the life of my clients. Having been through many touch patches myself, I understand well the importance of regaining one's own sense of purpose, strength, and dignity. I have experiences working with both
children
and adults using individual and family therapy modalities.

Life can be tough sometimes. There are times when you just need someone to listen and for you to be able to talk to them openly, without any judgment or fear. Kids, teens, young adults, and families are welcome to come and bring their struggles and hurts with them. Young adults who are dealing with the stress of college or just of life in general as an adult can come and learn to release their worries. We work together to set goals and work through your issues and needs to meet your desired goals. Clients can range from
children
as young as 3 all the way up to parents and grandparents that are wanting to live happier lives.

I love working with
children
, adolescents and adults who know a better life is possible, but lack the tools, self-esteem and/or support needed to overcome old patterns and create a new way of being. The kids I support in the playroom often struggle to communicate, manage their behavior, exhibit confidence, problem solve and positively relate to others. Adolescents and adults I serve may have experienced harmful relationships, traumatic events, or notice difficulties feeling comfortable in their own skin. It would be an honor to accompany you on life's journey of ups and downs as you heal the past and work toward a brighter future.

I have worked extensively with
children
of all ages and have found a particular fondness for working with adolescents.
Family Therapy is successful with a wide variety of symptoms and problems. Often people seek out services that can isolate them and their problems from the context that it is existing in. I specialize in working with troubled youth and their families, I also see couples and parents with youth challenges. My focus is on modifying family and outside interactions, in order to create a context that produces well being for all. My professional training and education has been in psychology and marriage and family therapy. I have worked systemically with individuals, couples, families, and groups in agencies, schools, and private practice.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
