Counseling to me is a calling. I consider my path to becoming a counselor one that was designed to teach me the reality of pain and empathy, so that I might sit with others facing hardships. My passion has continued to grow and thrive as I’ve worked with clients struggling with addiction, anxiety , co-dependency, trauma, spiritual issues, grief, and relationship issues. I specialize in anxiety and OCD, trauma, boundaries, and grief. Over the course of my career, I have treated those who’ve struggled with trauma and addiction as well as provided support groups and psycho-educational lectures to loved ones.

Does everyday feel like a struggle? Does motivation feel harder to come by? Let's talk about it! Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been an increase in reports of anxiety and depression. There are more people seeking treatment for the first time. Due to the increase in people seeking help, there has also been an increase in adults diagnosed ADHD. Did you know depression, anxiety , and bipolar disorder are commonly co-occurring with ADHD? Sometimes, they can even have overlapping symptoms like difficulty with sleep, anger/rage outburst, difficulty with concentration, mood swings, difficulty with motivation, etc.

I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and groups as we work together to free ourselves from the struggles and suffering that keep us from living our life to the fullest. At times our lives can feel unmanageable. Trauma, depression, anxiety , relationship problems, unhealthy cycles, addictions, and other areas of our mental health can keep us stuck and unable to move forward freely. We start to lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel of our suffering. I am here to walk alongside you as we move toward that light. Through counseling, these issues can be addressed and freedom is possible as we work together!

I have over 15 years working with children and teens who have experienced trauma. I enjoy working with this population to address anxiety , depression, family issues, self-image issues, and trauma. I also see children or teens who have chronic medical conditions and help them adjust to the changes of their lives now that they have this condition. I use evidenced based treatments to address the issues and meet every person where they are in the treatment process. I enjoy watching the progress that is made so that the children and adolescents see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we can reach it together.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
