As depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health issues get bigger, our lives get smaller.
I’ve had the honor of helping people in a wide range of settings for more than 15 years, using evidence-based counseling approaches to overcome depression, anxiety, grief, substance abuse, trauma, and other issues. I especially enjoy using practical and sometimes unconventional tools to defeat painful self-critical and "catastrophic" negative thoughts.

You don't have to continue feeling overwhelmed, flooded with emotions, and anxious.
Are you exhausted from appearing to be holding it all together while you are internally overwhelmed and struggling? Have you been avoiding pain or hurt from your childhood or past but you know it is taking a toll on you. You might not even remember a time when things didn't feel so heavy. A few things are for sure: you are ready for some relief. You are ready to feel heard and seen. And you longing to slow down and breathe. Clients come to me looking to heal past wounds, build capacity for challenging emotions, and shift unhealthy ways of coping.

Do you feel like you’re doing everything “right” to manage anxiety, but it still shows up the same way?
My approach is shaped by both professional training and personal experience. As a client of EMDR and IFS, I’ve experienced how this work can lead to feeling more authentic, grounded, and whole. I bring that perspective into therapy, along with a deep respect for how hard it is to feel stuck.

The fear, anger, or despair has robbed you of your sense of safety and prevented you from enjoying your life.
Wherever your trauma came from, I can help you heal. Using EMDR, we will reduce the impact trauma has on your life. You’ll gain the strength to get through memories that feel “stuck” in your brain. Together, we’ll separate facts from feelings to reduce emotional disruption when you recall those memories.

I specialize in anxiety/stress-related challenges: Anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, PTSD, life transitions, trauma, relationship difficulties, and sociocultural experiences.
This can be a challenging time and space to be living in. There is so much more you can control in your life experience than what society leads you to believe. I'd be honored to offer you a place of support, a genuinely connected relationship, and my expertise (in nerdy stuff like neuroscience and the cognitive process) to help defeat whatever is standing between you & the life you deserve. My goal is to bring hope and solution to negative things my clients are experiencing through their own personal empowerment.

So, if you are ready to reevaluate some aspects of your life and seek support via collaboration, you’ve come to the right place, and I thank you for your initiative, time, and consideration.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
