I specailize in working one-on-one with men and with couples on issues including (but definitely not limited to) problems in relationships,
anger
/emotional management, communication, substance abuse, stress management, grief, parenting, and struggles in common life transitions such as getting married, having children, losing and/or changing jobs, etc.
If there is one thing that I’ve learned in my more than ten years working as a therapist, it would be that life can be rough no matter who you are. And sometimes rough in ways you never thought it could be. What do YOU do when those rough times come? Not sure? Or have the ways you thought would fix things not worked? I work with individuals and couples feeling lost or unsure of what to do or where to turn when they have these rough times. I have been through times in life when I feel this way and love working with people to help find the best ways for them to deal with whatever rough patch, big or small, they may find themselves in.

My typical counseling approach, and that of my colleagues at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, is anchored firmly and unapologetically in the Christian world-view. We do so with a clear, unwavering theistic paradigm that acknowledges God's sovereignty in all things, as He is intimately interested in, and responsive to, each person and all they experience. Therefore, unless otherwise directed by the client, our approach will inherently involve the use of biblical revelation and the principles found therein, when ever appropriate and applicable. The Christ centered world view is paramount to my approach to healing.

Does
anger
have a grip on you?
Anger
is one of the two most powerful human emotions. When it controls you, the costs can be astronomical. The pain, shame, and regrets can be immense. Angry outbursts affect relationships, careers, and parenting. Maybe you think you're in control because you suppress it, but that can lead to depression, anxiety, suicidal and homicidal thoughts, and mood disorders. Consequences of
anger
can include arrest, divorce, broken relationships, and job loss. Health issues can occur, including high blood pressure, ulcers, and headaches. Loved ones often pay through abuse or destruction of their property.

Acknowledging the discomfort associated with not understanding exactly what to do in certain situations, but being willing to develop effective ways to cope, is a great start to personal well-being. Having someone to talk to through times of anxiety, depression and
anger
could restore your sense of personal control of your own well-being. We sometimes experience disconnect or disassociation in our efforts to resolve conflict. Cognitive behavioral (CBT) therapies can help us realign how we deal with disruptions to our positive well-being associated with anxiety, depression or
anger
.

Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my
anger
and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come. -H. Nouwen

Does everyday feel like a struggle? Does motivation feel harder to come by? Let's talk about it! Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been an increase in reports of anxiety and depression. There are more people seeking treatment for the first time. Due to the increase in people seeking help, there has also been an increase in adults diagnosed ADHD. Did you know depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder are commonly co-occurring with ADHD? Sometimes, they can even have overlapping symptoms like difficulty with sleep,
anger
/rage outburst, difficulty with concentration, mood swings, difficulty with motivation, etc.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
