It is an honor to witness and explore someone’s internal world — being present to explore the hurt, pain, excitement, and success. Life is difficult and always changing, and it’s important to have a place where you can explore life’s delicate and complicated ups and downs, both past and present. I have practiced in Texas since 2012, serving clients at various levels of care and within the school systems. I work with adolescent and adult clients for individual counseling. Specializing in teens transitioning from high school to college and young adults after college along .

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist and EMDR Certified. I am passionate about working with parents who want to strength their relationship with their child by learning new ways to connect and understand their child/ teen . My practice is focused on working with the entire family system. Many times parents seek services for their child. When they come to my office, we work on helping the parent be a partner in the healing process. My approach is different than other child therapist because I involve the parents in every step of the process and encourage them to be the parents that they want to be.

Family Matters Counseling Center has evolved into a wholistic practice that offers marriage support, foster care assessments, drug evaluations, and career counseling! We specialize in adolescent and adult counseling.
I started Family Matters Counseling Center after I realized that a family system is one that the client creates and is not born into. From here I developed a passion to learn each unique families story to help them overcome their obstacle in maintaining balance within their family system. I help clients re-ignite their passion and hope in reaching their career and personal goals. I do this in a collaborative and gentle approach as I assist you in your journey with every step.

I have experience counseling clients reporting anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, adolescent adjustment, & relational issues (domestic disagreements, infidelity & sexuality issues).
Are the dynamics of a specific relationship affecting other areas of your life? Or is something personal affecting your important relationships? Because relationships are the building blocks of life, they have the power to affect your happiness & well-being. It seems that creating a balance of love & trust between people in relationships enhances the individuals' hopes for the future of the relationship overall. Couple relationships function best when give & take is balanced & when relational fairness is made a priority. Other family relationships are similar & should also be fair & balanced in how individuals give & take & relate with one another.

Therapy is for you! So, I want to truly hear you, make you feel valued, and empathetically empower you to embrace and express your most authentic self as we collaboratively nurture a full and meaningful life—whatever this means for you. I not only believe you possess the capacity for positive transformation, but I also believe you are worthy of genuine loving-kindness, inner tranquility, and the opportunity to grow and go whichever direction fills your soul’s cup. As such, I cultivate a safe and validating space in which you can heal, change, unwind, vent, self-care, or whatever else you may need.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
