I enjoy working with children who have behavioral issues at school/ home,
ADHD
, depression, anxiety and children who have high functioning autism (Asperger's Syndrome).
I love working with the "littles" (children 5-10 years old)! They are one of my favorite populations. I enjoy helping them learn how to manage their emotions, control their behaviors and build self confidence by improving their behaviors. It is my goal to help them grow and engage in a big world that is not always set up for them. I work with families to help them open up communication, parent with positive discipline, and recreate a routine that works for them. I believe building positive self esteem helps the littles make behavioral changes that last.

How often do you find yourself thinking of what could have been? Perhaps it's not what could have been but something you should have done differently? Or maybe it's more about the future for you, all the what ifs? Do these journeys into the past and future leave you feeling guilty, frustrated or filled with fear? I work to ground my clients in the here and now, accepting what is as opposed to what could be. I aim to help individuals reach their goals by building self-awareness and self-compassion.

It is okay to not be okay. In our society, we get caught up in the toxic hustle of sucking it up and pushing through. Can you be truly honest with yourself? How has that been working for you? How much energy have you exerted ignoring bad relationships, ignoring your trauma, ignoring your true and real emotions? Imagine what else you could do with that energy? How different would your life be? It's not too bold to say it can change everything! You and your kiddos are worth it.

As depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health issues get bigger, our lives get smaller. They weigh us down, isolate us, and make even simple things seem difficult. Frustration, shame, and confusion from the constant struggle can
add
to the weight we are already carrying. Friends and loved ones may inadvertently make things worse by offering advice or trying to make us feel better. We put off seeking help because we feel guilty, embarrassed, or don’t want to burden people (especially when we are the "Strong" one who usually helps others). It can happen to anyone. The good news is that treatment works and therapy helps!

Does everyday feel like a struggle? Does motivation feel harder to come by? Let's talk about it! Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been an increase in reports of anxiety and depression. There are more people seeking treatment for the first time. Due to the increase in people seeking help, there has also been an increase in adults diagnosed
ADHD
. Did you know depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder are commonly co-occurring with
ADHD
? Sometimes, they can even have overlapping symptoms like difficulty with sleep, anger/rage outburst, difficulty with concentration, mood swings, difficulty with motivation, etc.

I have 3 children, one of which has

The clients I focus on have difficulty with many stressors in life. School, divorce, relationship and family issues. Each of these are influenced by many factors that can quickly overwhelm someone. Although each person is different, everyone shares a common trait. They have an innate ability to handle the situation but are just needing the correct tools. All of us need someone in our corner at different points in our lives. None of us are alone.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
