I have experience working in mental health facilities providing individual, family and group counseling.
As individuals, we experience influences, temptations, trials and tribulations in different times in our lives, which can leave you feeling hopeless, helpless, out of control or like you have failed. I understand how life and environments can become a routine, a pattern, and sometimes an unhealthy cycle. I am here to help you identify and make steps toward being the kind of person or family you want to be.

Do you feel stuck? Not sure how to get back to yourself, your family or keep working at your job? At times, it may feel like it is just you against it all, alone and unsure of how to proceed. Generally, fear of the unknown keeps us from taking the steps needed to change things for ourselves. Let's work together to figure out where to start, what the roadblocks are and how you can capitalize your strengths to over come them.

Sometimes life can be tough. It can tear you down and take you through some things that you feel like you can never recover from. It's difficult to navigate through grief, life transitions, trauma, depression, anxiety, or everyday stressors by yourself. To often, people feel there is no help or hope for them, their child, or that family member or friend they worry about. There is hope!

Hello! My name is Shataya (pronounced Shuh-tay-uh) and I am glad you found my page! I love working with people to reclaim parts of or redefine themselves after life changes. I will support you in working towards or identifying your goals in therapy, finding new ways to prioritize self, and working through the circumstances that arise. Trauma, anxiety, and depression can often rob us of time, presence, or energy and I am here to support you through the challenges that past and present can cause.

As a Christian counselor, I specialize in working with teens in preparing them for adulthood; with marriages to work out problem areas through collaborative strategies; with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, sexual addiction, job- and family-related stress management, anger management and other common distresses.
I especially enjoy working with couples who are looking for ways to strengthen or repair their marriage. The children and teens in these families may also be experiencing challenges in coping with the stress of life, and I work with them to develop healthier ways to engage with parents, friends and school.

This includes healing and processing from trauma, addressing depression and anxiety, working through family issues, phase of life concerns, work and school problems, and other topics that affect one's wellness.
LGBTQ+ people experience many different situations and circumstances that are unique to the LGBT community. Your gender and orientation doesn't define you, but it does play a large role in your life and impacts many different other issues that you may face. You deserve a counselor who not only understands this, but also knows how to incorporate a person's whole self into counseling and addresses the specific challenges unique to the LGBTQ+ Community.

At times life provides us with the opportunities that enable us to grow and accomplish. However, at times it also presents itself in the form of a challenge. These life events can take a toll on our mental health and leave us feeling hopeless, unmotivated, lost, and stuck. I am passionate and confident in my ability to make a difference in the life of my clients. Having been through many touch patches myself, I understand well the importance of regaining one's own sense of purpose, strength, and dignity. I have experiences working with both children and adults using individual and family therapy modalities.

I believe that if we tune into ourselves, increase our awareness, and have the willingness to do the work, we can reshape who we are and build stronger and longer-lasting connections with family and friends.
Life does not come with a manual. We have all faced life’s challenges, with some being more difficult than others. These challenges have shaped who we are and how we interact with the world around us. However, we can work together to change the outcomes of these experiences, build coping skills, and empower you. I am not just another therapist -- I truly enjoy seeing my clients grow and improve. As long as someone wants to work on themselves, I will be there along the way.

The clients I focus on have difficulty with many stressors in life. School, divorce, relationship and family issues. Each of these are influenced by many factors that can quickly overwhelm someone. Although each person is different, everyone shares a common trait. They have an innate ability to handle the situation but are just needing the correct tools. All of us need someone in our corner at different points in our lives. None of us are alone.

We believe in a systems approach, meaning that one change within a family can help heal the entire family.
If you're searching for counseling, I suspect you're feeling pretty lost. Your brain is fogged. You're anxious and confused about your marriage, your kids, or the history you've experienced. What you once thought to be true when you were at your best doesn't seem possible in the future. Maybe you just need someone else to help carry you for a while. We can help.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
