Anxiety, depression and stress have a way of isolating you from the world. Sometimes, all we need is an outlet to voice our struggles to work through difficult thoughts and tough times. Therapy can allow for an unbiased and supportive environment to work through these challenges, one step at a time. I believe therapy is a tool that can help people navigate through many of life’s peaks and valleys. In today's world where there is so much emphasis on physical health, I strongly believe it is just as important to care for our mental and emotional health.

When life throws challenges your way, it can feel lonely and hard to know that you are good enough and that things will be okay. No one gets through life without struggle, pain, and obstacles. But these periods of stress may leave you feeling anxious or down, unmotivated, doubting your worth, or feeling disconnected. Trying to meet others' expectations or social/cultural expectations may mean filtering out who you really are - and this can zap the joy out of life. Therapy is a great resource to reclaim a sense of peace in your life, to feel more deeply rooted in who you are, and to be able to move towards your goals.

You feel like it would be good to talk to someone who has an idea about what you're going through, but you're not necessarily wanting therapy. You're ready to make some changes, but you're used to doing things on your own, your way. However, some guidance, support, and maybe some accountability would be helpful. Life coaching provides guidance and support so that you can discover what you really need and want in your life, and then plan the pathway make those visions reality. You lead the way, I provide the flashlight. As a professional woman, you've worked hard and sacrificed much for others. NOW is the time to focus on yourself.

Most of us can easily think of the obvious benefits to counseling but a mental/emotional investment is required to reap those benefits. Unfortunately there is no magic wand or magic pill and as a therapist I cannot "fix" anyone. But...I can teach you how to use your thoughts for your success rather than your destruction. I can show you how your thoughts can be used as the steering wheel of your emotions and behavior. I can help you acquire and employ cognitive and behavioral strategies that will facilitate better communication and improve the relationship with yourself and others.

We all struggle sometimes, but ongoing issues can leave us exhausted, isolated, confused, discouraged... If your days or nights are hard to get through, if you can't seem to settle down or stop overthinking, if life feels scary or you don't know what to do, if you never feel good enough or can't seem to 'get over' or 'stop doing' x, I'd love to talk with you. My experience is broad, but my practice is largely focused on anxiety & stress disorders, relational trauma, chronic & terminal illnesses, and healthy coping/decision making during life transitions.

Are you feeling the pressures of everyday life building up? Do you feel alone with your worries, anxieties, and fears? Are your relationships being impacted? Are you tired of facing all that you've been through alone? Therapy can be an amazing experience where you allow a trusted therapist in to your life so that you no longer face these challenges alone. In working together, we can discuss ways to tolerate the discomforts of past and current pain, while also looking deeper to discover the causes of these in order to bring about healing and freedom.

My goal in working with clients is to build a strong, authentic, and trusting relationship in which they are able to safely and openly explore themselves, their relationships with others, and any other concerns. I recognize that each client is unique and that there is no “one size fits all” solution. I strive to meet each person where they are and to work collaboratively to meet your individual needs and goals, whatever they may be. I hope to empower my clients to connect with their existing strengths and resources, to face future challenges with courage, and to create more meaningful, healthier lives and relationships.

I am passionate about helping women. Society has high expectations of us as women and we face these pressures daily. Let’s also get real for a minute... We pressure ourselves with being perfect and then torment inside when it's not possible. We drain ourself out and forget that we also need to take care of ourselves and sometimes that means our trauma too. Whether it is low self-esteem with a loud internal critic, not knowing how to identify your needs, or a traumatic experience in your way, I will help you figure out what you need moving forward to enjoy life. YOU are worth it!

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
