Using Emotionally Focused
Couples
Therapy has brought
couples
back from the edge of divorce and improved connection, understanding and closeness.
Life is challenging and at times can be overwhelming. The need to have two Income families, shuttling kids to school then to activities such as sporting events, dance practice and band practice is very daunting to say the least. Sometimes people turn to substance abuse, and other unhealthy behaviors which then become a problem rather then a solution. This affects all family members. The real solution lies within each of us. My work is to help you ferret out that solution. Unhealed traumas and complex emotions needing to be untangled ware us down. Help is available. call or email me.

Additionally, I frequently use the Enneagram as a tool to increase self awareness and improve relationships in marital or
couples
therapy.
I have gradually centered my work around people dealing with trauma, addiction, attachment struggles and OCD because I identify with the experience and have experienced healing myself. Complex trauma, attachment difficulties, addiction and OCD often cause chronic emotional disregulation. The attention grabbing power of the past or the future remove connection with the present and the people in it. Additionally, persistent negative beliefs about oneself, God or others make progress feel too hard or a fleeting and disappointing experience. Helping people find freedom and start living is the passion that fuels my work.

I work with clients in an interactive, supportive, and solution focused approach. I believe that clients benefit from learning about their own existing strengths, as well as the different approaches which can help them achieve their goals. This applies whether I'm working with adults,
couples
, adolescents, sexual abuse survivors, individuals with depression, grief, anxiety, PTSD, self-harm, or addiction issues. I always try to be straightforward, honest, and down-to-earth. I emphasize that everybody sometimes experiences stress and problems in daily life, and that most of these issues can be worked through.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
