I feel deeply honored to do this work and consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients on their journeys. As a mother of two young children, I have a special appreciation for the complexities of parenting and the ways our own childhood attachments can shape our relationships today.

I believe in making the most of the time in our lives, with the people in our lives, even when those experiences are clouded by inevitable challenges. Often, it’s difficult to reflect on what exactly we need to thrive in each season of life-thats where I come in. Everyone has the ability to lead a happy and fulfilling life & therapy is a powerful tool in that journey. It takes setting goals, gaining insight into patterns in our lives, exploring solutions, and changing our habits & behaviors to fully achieve wellness.

Since my early years in elementary school, I've been drawn to the idea of making a difference in people's lives. The sentiment encapsulated in Leonard Cohen's words, "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in," has resonated deeply with me. It speaks to the inherent resilience and potential for growth within each individual, even amidst challenges and imperfections. Guided by a strengths-based, solution-focused approach, I believe in illuminating these strengths within clients, recognizing them as potent resources for navigating life's complexities.

Life can feel heavy at times. Maybe your thoughts spiral and won’t quiet down, or stress leaves you feeling exhausted and stuck. You might be experiencing anxiety, depression, or big changes, like starting a new career, going back to school, or grieving the loss of someone important, and wondering how you’ll get through it all. These moments can feel lonely, but you don’t have to go through them alone.

I am an affirming therapist for the lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer community ( LGBTQ).
You have been struggling for some time with being all alone in the world. You constantly have nagging worries that you will never find happiness or fulfillment. None of your friends understand what you are going through. It is so difficult to believe that things will ever get better. Close partners in your life abandoned you when you needed them the most. You try to move on, but you catch yourself thinking things like, “Am I attractive?” “Why don’t I feel good enough?” "What if I spend the rest of my life alone?" "What if I really am a failure?" The truth is, you deserve to live a life free of worry and fear. You deserve to thrive.

People are whole and deserve to discover the many facets of themselves that create who they are. It is easy to hide aspects of the self for favor of what others want from us. But what is it that you want? Finding our authentic self can be daunting and can feel like just another area to explore in an already chaotic world. However, it is worth exploring. Asking for guidance in understanding ourselves to better understand the world around us is a massive strength. My ideal client is someone wanting to gain self-awareness and grow towards their goals. It is not just about the goal but the journey in getting there. One moment at a time.

I specialize in affirmative therapy with people who are LGBTQ+.
I believe anyone can benefit from counseling. We all lead busy lives in an increasingly complex world; at its most basic, counseling offers a set time and place for a person to slow down, catch their breath, and talk through parts of their life in the service of making it better. Whether you want to know yourself more deeply, process impactful life events or relationships, heal from mental or emotional pain, or further develop aspects of yourself for a better quality of life, I aim to help my clients with these goals and others.

As an openly queer and neurodivergent psychologist I strive to create a space of trust, safety and resiliency for those within marginalized groups in society.
You wake up in the middle of the night, your mind swirling with thoughts of whether you'll ever be able to trust someone again – to let down those walls that have become your armor. The old ways of coping that once served you now seem to be crumbling, leaving you feeling even more adrift. Each time you tidy up a space, the weight of responsibilities feels unbearable, and you can't help but yearn for someone to care for you, to give you the break you so desperately need and deserve. If your day-to-day seems like a maze of responsibilities and obligations that leave little room for your own well-being, I understand and I can help.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
