I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma , and low self-esteem.
Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.`` - Khalil Gibran My ideal clients are willing to look at the somatic elements of who they are, become more mindful of their internal sensations and return to the present moment. They begin to understand that change can happen, that they can become unstuck, and find healing and growth within balancing thinking and somatic self.

I am currently co-owner of a private practice named Balance Beacon in Bedford, TX, where we also work with individuals, families, and marital/couples struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma ( PTSD ), and sex therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) who believes in internal power and strength. It may feel like internal power and strength is non-existent because there are times when situations and circumstances seem to get the best of life. A way of escape may be to indulge in unhealthy habits (such as substances) that make things worse. This is where I can be of assistance because I work with individuals struggling with addictions (ages 18-65). If you need help in this area, therapy can be scary but courageous and a necessary step for you.

Do you constantly second guess yourself or find there are thoughts you can’t seem to let go of? Do you experience lingering grief or need to improve your relationships? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then DLR Counseling Group is for you. It’s a fact. We all carry long-held beliefs that influence our lives. Oftentimes, they were seared into our minds and hearts when we were children. The positive ones cause us to move forward. The negative ones hinder us through fear, anger, self-doubt, hopelessness, or silence. They alter our thoughts about love, race, relationships, death, trauma , and much more.

In my practice of over 20 years, I have treated all varieties of issues from depression and anxiety, PTSD and dissociative disorders, physical pain, troubled or broken relationships, grief, anger, trauma incidents, bullying, troubled parent-child issues, LGBTQ issues, and all types of addictions.
Have you had a situation happen that has caused deep emotional or physical pain? Has the pain been pushing you to the breaking point? Pain can come in many forms both emotional and physical and the strategies we use to deal with it often make the problem worse rather than better. Are you unsure what to do or where to go? Is your desire to get out of the pain but you are afraid that it can't get better? I can tell you from experience that ignoring it doesn't help but I do know that there are lots of strategies to get through it. I’d like the opportunity to show you how to turn your breakdown into a BREAKTHROUGH!

Sometimes things happen that are totally out of our control. We may try to forget about it but the reality is it will still affect us directly or indirectly. We might not know where to start but asking for help is the first step. Congratulations on taking that step! I understand that this can be a very scary step to allow someone into the most intimate part of your life, but it can also be very rewarding if you choose to trust the process.

I know it can be difficult to find someone you really feel safe with, who you can trust, who won't judge you. I'd be honored to be that person. As someone who works with the whole person, I understand the importance of religion within all faith groups. I also love working with those who identify as poly, LGBTQIA+, and in the kink community. If you're currently in a place where you're thinking, "I don't know if I can do this anymore" or if you sometimes wonder if you're "too broken" to feel better, don't give up. You've taken the first step to getting help. You are worth following through and seeing what the next steps can offer.

On the surface it looks like anger or constant irritation, but beneath the turbulent current of destructive behaviors are emotions like sadness and grief, pain, sorrow and fear. Anger is much more preferable if a lot of your life you have felt powerless or helpless. As you might be figuring out, the power of intense, uncontrollable anger only leads to self-destruction and can deeply hurts others. Self-destruction can look a lot like being stuck, resistance to change even when miserable, using substances, or being undisciplined. It can feel lonely.

As a professional counselor, I believe in the power of each individual to overcome barriers that prevent their life pathway from taking a more positive direction. I am invested in creating a calm and safe haven where growth and improvement can occur. Using a person-centered approach requires understanding the perspective patients have about issues in their lives to foster open, honest communication within a therapeutic relationship. When people feel comfortable expressing their emotions, an effective counselor is able to gain knowledge of how that person views their problems.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
