I am currently co-owner of a private practice named Balance Beacon in Bedford, TX, where we also work with individuals, families, and marital/
couples
struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma (PTSD), and sex therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) who believes in internal power and strength. It may feel like internal power and strength is non-existent because there are times when situations and circumstances seem to get the best of life. A way of escape may be to indulge in unhealthy habits (such as substances) that make things worse. This is where I can be of assistance because I work with individuals struggling with addictions (ages 18-65). If you need help in this area, therapy can be scary but courageous and a necessary step for you.

I use Emotions Focused Therapy.
On the surface it looks like anger or constant irritation, but beneath the turbulent current of destructive behaviors are emotions like sadness and grief, pain, sorrow and fear. Anger is much more preferable if a lot of your life you have felt powerless or helpless. As you might be figuring out, the power of intense, uncontrollable anger only leads to self-destruction and can deeply hurts others. Self-destruction can look a lot like being stuck, resistance to change even when miserable, using substances, or being undisciplined. It can feel lonely.

As a professional counselor, I believe in the power of each individual to overcome barriers that prevent their life pathway from taking a more positive direction. I am invested in creating a calm and safe haven where growth and improvement can occur. Using a person-centered approach requires understanding the perspective patients have about issues in their lives to foster open, honest communication within a therapeutic
relationship
. When people feel comfortable expressing their emotions, an effective counselor is able to gain knowledge of how that person views their problems.

My work is about helping you develop a
relationship
with the parts of you that are giving those negative messages as well as the parts who hold the pain behind those messages.
Have you ever asked yourself: “Why do I still feel so bad?” You’re outwardly successful but can’t seem to take it in. All you hear inside are negative messages – many from your past. What you do never feels like it's good enough. You want to be able to enjoy your successes and savor the positive things in your life. You don't understand what's holding you back. You feel alone with no one to share your struggle.

I believe in meeting clients where they are at emotionally and helping them and their parents reach their goals. Through a positive
relationship
with my client I try to help them gain insight into their desire to belong and have significance. I continually work to create a supportive environment for children in order for the child to gain insight and understanding into their unique world. With insight the child and therapist can collaborate to reduce the child's current stressors possibly leading to problematic behaviors.

I offer Saturday and weekday evening appointments. I use a strengths-based systemic approach to therapy helping individuals,
couples
and families explore moments when problems arise within their relationships. I work with clients to explore all factors in their lives that might be contributing to the problem as well as helping to achieve goals in finding a solution. Problems aren’t born in a vacuum so I look to see what else in one’s life might have significance in reducing the issues you face. I offer a non-judgmental environment to help you find your own voice and help to provide necessary tools to move forward.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
