Life doesn’t have to feel this heavy. You deserve a life that feels empowering and fulfilling. Anxiety, depression, stress, & the daily grind can wear us down until it feels never-ending. Sometimes even our closes relationships—usually a source of life and joy—can leave us feeling defeated and drained. If this sounds familiar, let’s talk. I don’t have a magic wand, but I do bring life experience that helps me understand where you’re coming from, clinical expertise to guide your healing, and a deep belief that every person is created for a purpose. My goal is to help you reconnect with yourself & find inspiration in your life again.

So you’re sober, or getting sober or thinking about getting sober and now life is hitting. You're facing the more complex, uncomfortable, and sometimes embarrassing issues that were buried underneath your use. You're doing the work, but maybe you're starting to feel stuck, restless, and a little lost. Maybe you're feeling disconnected from your body, or have a nagging insecurity that keeps you from feeling like enough. Maybe sex and intimacy are overwhelming. Or maybe you're just tired of getting stuck in the same old cycles, seeing the patterns repeat again and feeling powerless to stop them. This is where I (and Susan) come in.

Together, we’ll work towards uncovering patterns, shifting unhelpful thought processes, and strengthening self-awareness, so you can respond to life’s challenges with clarity and confidence. My goal is for clients to not only gain insight into their struggles but also to experience real, tangible progress, whether that’s improved coping skills, healthier boundaries, or a deeper sense of self-worth, while knowing they have a safe space to return to in me as they continue their journey.

Are you experiencing the many ways substance use or behavioral addictions can create pain, whether for you or someone you love?
I use Brainspotting, a technique developed out of EMDR, to help clients process trauma, difficult issues/symptoms and to get unstuck. I also use CBT, Somatic Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. In terms of substance use or behavioral addiction, I work with Abstinence Recovery support (12-Step, etc.) as well as a Harm Reduction approach.

You don't want to be defined by your worst moments. Maybe you're exhausted from making the same promises to yourself and watching them fall apart. Maybe you're tired of feeling controlled by things that once helped but now leave you feeling stuck, ashamed, or disconnected from the person you want to be. If you're ready for something different, therapy can be a place to stop judging yourself and start understanding what's keeping you there.

I work with people, not labels. It’s about you, not a diagnosis. And it’s about me, not a degree. It becomes about us working together for your goals, whatever those are-I can help. We’re so surprised when we feel something but it “doesn’t make sense”. We “should” ourselves & judge. We waste a helluva lot of time doing this. How often have you tried to think yourself out of a feeling? I know!! Me too. Doesn't work. Together we can figure out how & why you think & feel the way you do. You can't think your way out of depression, anxiety, trauma or anything else. You can talk & feel yourself out, though. Here is what I believe.

Confucius once said, "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." My philosophy is this; you already know the answers to your problems, you just don't know that you know them yet. My job is to help you unlock the secrets to your own happiness and productivity. I work with adults, adolescents, couples, and families, and get tremendous fulfillment in seeing my clients succeed. No problem is unsolvable. Working with me will grant you greater stress tolerance and emotional resilience, as well as "mind-hacks" that will change how you deal with normal day-to-day life.

It takes courage to seek out therapy, so congratulations on taking the first step in your journey of therapeutic healing and connection to self and others. What happens in the therapeutic setting in conjunction with lifestyle enhancements can, over time, bring about lasting change. With gentle facilitation, you can increase awareness of body and mind and enhance mood, motivation, agency, and integration of skills. These self-improvements allow for a more self-directed life that can be lived more fully through consciously curated personal values and choices.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
