My name is Graham Maxey. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1983, after graduating from the University of Houston/Clear Lake with a Master of Arts in Behavioral Science. I had noticed for many years that the primary problems people experienced in life were mainly due to living in a space of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that were "too small" to accommodate their well-being or their enjoyment in living. My goal as a counselor has always been to help clients "widen" the spaces they live in and let them have fuller access to all that their lives actually can provide for them.

You may look like you're holding it all together on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, disconnected, or like you're living someone else's life. Maybe you're navigating divorce, a relationship ending, a career change, questions about identity or spirituality, or you're simply tired of being at war with yourself. I help thoughtful, curious adults—including many LGBTQ+ clients, creatives, and helping professionals—understand the deeper patterns shaping their lives so they can stop merely coping and begin living with greater authenticity, freedom, and self-compassion.

Hello Friend - this is for you. Thank you for taking a moment to read - In a world that often feels chaotic, it’s easy to become disconnected - from our relationships, from others, or even from ourselves. At times life may flow with ease, and at other times the unexpected leaves us unsure how to move forward. These moments can bring loneliness, isolation, and uncertainty about our purpose. If you find yourself searching for meaning or clarity, know that you are not alone. I would be honored to walk beside you as you rediscover your strength and the answers within.

You can experience DEEP, LASTING change. I want to help you get there. Many people long to be different, but lack that “something” that will make the difference. They feel alone and stuck in continuing cycles of pain, disconnected from life and love. But this doesn’t have to be you. There is a way to heal and learn to enjoy life in an ever-deepening way. My goal as a therapist is to help you do just that. In other words, my goal is to help you experience deep, lasting change.

Healing and making life changes is what therapy is all about. I work with adolescents and adults using approaches encompassing spiritual, cognitive, behavioral, insight, and EMDR to make this happen. EMDR is a physiologically based method of therapy I use with many clients who have post traumatic stress, disturbing memories, anxiety and/or a history of abuse. This ranges from trauma experienced by veterans of wars, crime, and natural disasters to childhood emotional and physical abuse to varying degrees. Together we will match your therapy needs with the optimum approach for your healing and facilitation of change.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative endeavor to which we each bring different knowledge and life experiences. You are the expert on your life and have the resources to help you meet your goals. I bring my life experiences, my training and knowledge to assist you in meeting your goals. As a Jungian my knowledge entails understanding the psyche which is another word for soul. As an aide to understanding the soul I published a book entitled, The Journey: An Archetypal Story, available on Amazon.com. It tells, in metaphor and image, the journey of the soul and its goal in fulfilling its life purpose on this journey we call life

Transpersonal Therapists
How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
