In the past 11 years I have practiced as a Counselor and enjoy working with adults, and couples.
My goal as a Counselor is to help you let go of the resistance that keeps you stuck, whether it's in depression, anxiety, limiting beliefs/behaviors, or a bad relationship; stuck in ways that are destructive to you and/or your family. I believe in taking time to focus on communication skills and the many dynamics of "relationship", relationship to self, partner, family, and coworkers. This includes learning to take care of yourself as well as setting healthy boundaries with others.

I enjoy working with individuals that are wrestling to find peace from anxiety, secrets, or relationship difficulties.
You are tired of being someone you are not. Tired of pretending you have it all together so that others do not find out your secrets or shame. You tend to feel guilt, talk to yourself in a negative way, and struggle with insecurity. Relationships with family or others tend to be difficult which at times leads to anxiety and disconnecting from yourself or others. Sometimes you may think, “I don’t deserve ‘it’”. What you want most is some emotional relief. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to do just that. I meet you where you are without an agenda.

Grief counseling, Counseling adolescents, men's issues, anxiety, depression, anger, work/career issues, interpersonal issues, stress management, individual and couples counseling.
As a counselor I use Existential Counseling philosophy. Feelings of meaninglessness, existential isolation, freedom and death are often the result of the very nature of our existence. I believe individuals must learn to navigate paradoxes that develop naturally in all humans due to the nature of being. Humans often struggle with being authentic and yet meeting societal expectations and pressures. Thus we must learn to create new meanings for ourselves continually in order to restore a sense of self in an increasingly fast pace and complex world.

With over 40 years of experience, I choose to work with motivated clients who are willing to take responsibility for becoming well and happy. I use a positive psychology approach, building on strengths while directly addressing problems head-on. I don't use a lot of diagnosis, preferring to see each person as an individual capable of overcoming problems and reaching her/his goals. I work with the person as a whole being, and am willing to address issues of spirituality if the client chooses. I have particular expertise in dealing with emotional issues and relationship healing.

After years of loyalty to everyone but yourself, you are feeling betrayed by others around you, your family, your spouse, your administration, or even your calling.
You know all the right things to do, exercise, hobbies, spending time with friends and family, but something is still wrong. You feel like you should be enjoying time with your loved ones but can’t figure out why you don’t. You wonder where the “you” you used to know has gone. You don’t know who you are outside of who you love or what you do. You know what you’re required to do but not what you want to do. You started your career with the belief that you would make a difference in the broken system only to realize that you are now feeling broken.

I specialize in working with adolescents, couples and families, as well as individuals experiencing depression, anxiety and trauma.
I am here to help those who are struggling to enjoy life, whether that is due to depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relational distress, or life adjustments. Together we can discover the changes that will bring you peace, strength, and healing. It is important to me that you feel safe and understood. My goal is to help you understand how your life experiences have shaped the way you think and feel and how you relate to others. This insight can be used to challenge false beliefs you have created about yourself and the world. We cannot always control our circumstances, but we can learn to be secure within ourselves.

I genuinely enjoy working and getting to know people. I welcome people from different backgrounds and political leanings, unique religious or spiritual beliefs, all kinds of relationship dynamics/combinations, stressful careers, and traumatic experiences. If you are the type that's had to learn how to “fake it till you make it” The survivor living off caffeine and resilience, shaped by a tough childhood. If you are a fighter who has lost their own spark, but somehow found a way to fan the flames of others. I see you struggling in silence, drowning and I want to help.

I help you find relief by exploring the breadth of your life experiences, facilitate corrective emotional experiences, and reshape your relationship to yourself using techniques such as EMDR (eye movement reprocessing and desensitization) and by using historical and current philosophical practices and wisdom traditions to learn to love wisely.
You are feeling unfulfilled, lost, and hopeless. Life's meaning and purpose seems elusive to you, if not completely unknown. Your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about yourself are extremely painful and despite the part of you that knows that it's not right, you cannot shake the feeling that they are true. The truth is that there is nothing wrong with you. The truth is that you have been hurt and still have wounds that have never been properly addressed with nurturing and love. I can help you learn to love wisely. My clients find that my compassionate, gentle, and direct conversational style helps them feel safe and at ease.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
