Now offering remote online sessions via Telehealth. Attend sessions from your home or other private location. The CDC estimates that about 133 million Americans suffer with chronic illness and nearly 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. For these people, everyday life becomes a challenge and their quality of living is diminished. In group or private counseling I can help clients improve their quality of life. You didn't choose your chronic condition but you can make choices about how you respond to it.

I am a mixed race (black and white) clinician and feel this gives me a unique perspective to mental health. Life can be mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting. Trauma (racial, religious, or anywhere in between), work stress, marital strife, chronic illness and the like can at times feel magnified and the weight feels heavy, but I see you. Life is full of ups and downs and mental health can keep us feeling great or wanting to crawl into a dark hole. Sometimes we need to vent and have someone quietly listen, feel seen and validated, get practical advice or be taught coping skills to manage our emotions.

If you're reading this, you are more than likely experiencing some pain and suffering. You may feel lost and hopeless. This pain can become unbearable, especially when we walk through it alone. When we suffer, we often desire the presence of someone not affected by that pain to come alongside us and hear our cries. To sit with us in the emotions and understand us on a deeper level. With my clients, I work hard to be this presence. To form a safe space to feel your emotions, to be heard, and be accepted. Through our therapeutic relationship, we can begin to understand your process and how to best ride the wave of your emotion.

CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: 1st, These are hard, stressful times! I’m sooo sorry we’re all going through this. I am seeing clients in person & via teletherapy. Unfortunately I do not take insurance but I’ve lowered my rate to $85 an hour to try and make therapy as affordable as possible. I’ve been in practice 15 years and have opened my service area thanks to Google Duo & Facetime. I became a therapist after doing my own work over 2 decades ago and yes, I still do my own work with a therapist. It wasn’t easy but it was definitely the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, my family & my friends. I hope I can help you.

Do you assist and serve others professionally or personally while seeking meaning and purpose? Perhaps, you’re feeling overwhelmed and your once fulfilling work is starting to lose its appeal? The world is often full of unexpected events. Even with the best laid plans, these events can lead to struggles. While it’s a gift to care for others during difficult times, it can leave us drained, off balance, and feeling alone. You are a dedicated caregiver to others. Is it time to give yourself that care, as well?

In a time when your hope for peace, emotional relief or relational reconciliation may be lost, I can still see the hope for you. My desire as a therapist is to help you see that hope again yourself. I believe everyone is capable of healing and restoration within his or her relationships and within his or her self. I am honored by the opportunity to serve in my role during times of great difficulty for my clients and I rejoice with them as they begin to see positive change in ways they once thought impossible.

It is my belief that everyone has innate value and purpose to offer the world and that we all have the power within us to be who we want to be. Oftentimes, obstacles in life keep us from getting a clear vision of how to identify what we want and to achieve our goals. I love helping clients to process through their difficult life experiences identify how these experiences can help propel them forward. I often work with teens and adults who are struggling with Anxiety, Depression, identity, career, or finding purpose in their lives. I also have 18 years of experience as a competitive gymnast and love working with athletes.

In this world there is indeed trouble, darkness, violence, and loss. Looking for the light and meaning in it all can seem hopeless. When you feel that you have lost your way or true self altogether trying to fight it alone, I am here to help you seek the truth and be transformed by the renewal of your mind. It is my desire to help clients identify the messages they believe, often subconsciously, beneath the rhythms of daily life. These messages are often memory-informed and can interrupt our relationships, thought process, bodies, daily functioning, and self perception.

Greetings. I welcome the engagement of one's philosophical, spiritual, and existential leanings as another means of analysis and psychotherapy treatment. The process of psychoanalytic therapy focuses on the "science of the unconscious" attaining to the truth of one's individual & familial experience. My therapeutic framework is one of Eastern and Western integration with that of philosophy, psychoanalysis, and relational psychotherapy. I seek to offer in-depth treatment promoting inquiry. As in the words of Socrates - “Wonder is the beginning of wisdom."

I work with adolescents and adults who look to resolve struggles with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsions, complex trauma, childhood trauma, dissociation, and addiction. As part of the LGBTQ+ community, I work to make sessions safe, affirming, and welcoming. I meet people where they are, as the experts of their lives, and how they want to express themselves.

Making the decision to seek therapy takes a lot of courage. Allow me to take that journey with you! I am trained in scientifically proven techniques to help alleviate depression, anxiety and trauma. These issues often weigh us down from time to time and, if left unchecked, can profoundly affect us in our daily lives. Some days we struggle just to make it through the day! Counseling can empower you with skills to help you function better in your daily life. Once empowered with tools, this can carry over into other areas of your life giving you a greater sense of well-being. When you feel better, your relationships benefit as well.

Traditional talk therapy doesn't always give us the results we want, especially when working with trauma. I work best with clients who prefer a direct approach and have been trying to heal from trauma for a prolonged period of time without a lot of results. I found that spirituality is an important part of the trauma healing process. To me, spirituality looks like connecting with nature and the earth and expands beyond the traditional perspectives. Trauma often comes with addictions and I do not take the abstinence-only perspective on addiction and tend to emphasize harm reduction as an alternative.

I was once asked, when will things stop going wrong and I will be in control of my life? This is a sentiment many of us share which can leave us struggling to get through the day. In today's ever changing world, we are all challenged to adapt. Working together, we will seek self understanding, explore new ways to cope, pursue increased internal control and self-esteem, and strive to become the better versions of ourselves. My response was that changing is constant. As we persevere and develop strengths we become stronger more capable. Things that go wrong become small bumps in the road versus the road blocks they once were.

What type of Denton mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.
How to find a therapist in Denton?
When looking to find a therapist, it is certainly important to consider training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Understanding cost and insurance coverage is an important concern for many people. With some basic research and conversations with prospective therapists, you should be able to have a good understanding of the best way to afford therapy.
