I work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, life crisis, women's issues, relationship issues, parenting, addiction/recovery and the mind/body/spirit connection.
'Ring the bells that still can ring; forget your perfect offering; there is a crack in everything; it's how the light gets in.' (Leonard Cohen) When clients come in with cracks in their lives, I am committed to pointing towards the light. I love my job. Although I am educated and experienced in classical psychotherapeutic theory and practice, I have a spiritual foundation to my work. I encourage my clients to connect to an inner, Loving Wisdom -- and I am committed to doing the same. It is through that connection that we both are healed.

Hello, I am Ying Zheng, a California state-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been in this field for a decade, worked in multiple sites such as high school, cross-cultural community center, hospital and church. I would like to see counseling as my passion and life pursuit. I respect everyone’s right to make a decision about faith, but I do approach therapy using Christian perspective and values. In addition, I would borrow techniques from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, client-centered, and psychodynamic.

You’re lying awake replaying conversations, wondering if your relationship can recover. Maybe you’re coping with infidelity, emotional distance, or realizing your attachment patterns keep repeating. Anxiety shows up as racing thoughts, tightness in your chest, and constant self-doubt. You’re trying to decide whether to stay, set boundaries, or start over. You want clarity, confidence, and a steadier way to understand your emotions.

Maybe you’ve felt different from those around you. Perhaps you’ve experienced extreme loneliness despite being surrounded by others. Maybe you’ve struggled with finding yourself again as you’ve become a parent or spouse, or life has caused you to lose sight of who you are. Possibly, things from your past creep in even though you’ve tried so hard to block them out. Maybe you’ve lost someone close to you and things feel very heavy. These all share common resulting emotions of isolation, grief, depression, anxiety, and even shame or guilt. My goal is to help you see there is hope.

Sometimes the hardest realization is that what we thought we knew, thought would work, thought would "fix it" just... isn't working - and sometimes it gets worse! So many of us are Curse Busters - those that want something different than how we grew up, and are questioning e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. It's tough, honestly, to live out something that you've never seen done before, like putting together a puzzle without the box lid. I'm so excited to help you on your journey to finding You again! Bring your dark sense of humor, metaphors, memes, and snacks if you need 'em.

My ideal clients are women who feel like they're drowning while trying to keep everyone else afloat. You're the working mom wondering if you'll ever feel like yourself again, or the professional woman whose anxiety makes every decision feel overwhelming. Maybe you're navigating a major life transition - new baby, marriage, career change - and even positive changes feel scary. You want to stop just surviving & start thriving, but you're not sure how. You need practical tools that work in real life, not just theory. Most importantly, you want to feel understood by someone who truly gets what you're going through.

Does life seem confusing or even impossible? Does it ever feel like even when you are with others you feel alone? It is brave to ask for help. With every fiber of my being, I believe you have the answers you need and you can be the expert on you. Let me help you better understand your story and help guide you out of the dark places you are stuck in and into your truth. So much of the time we are living a narrative that others have crafted, by pain rather than strength. These narratives can feel like prisons but you have the ability to heal and take back your story.

I believe that therapy involves a collaboration between the client/s and the therapist. If a client is not part of the decisions, the ideas, the relationship, and the motivation, achieving the desired change is much more difficult. I understand that being in a relationship of any kind can be difficult and I believe that everyone needs help navigating the obstacles that we are bound to encounter in love, family, friends & life. I love being a part of that process. My role as a therapist is to collaborate with, empathize with, support, understand, and encourage my clients. I do this through face to face as well as tele/video therapy.

Individuals, couples, and families who come to my office are generally in some sort of pain or discomfort, moving back and forth between what is happening in their lives and what they want from life. Our conversations help shed light on why this is happening and what we can do to help you feel better. Although I use a variety of psychotherapeutic methods in my practice, the foundation of my work is in the relationship we create, the trust we establish, and the compassion we share. I welcome you to my practice.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
