EMDR allows us to reprocess the experiences that created mental blocks - the injury that shattered your confidence, the failure you can't shake, earlier trauma that shows up when stakes are high, etc.
You've achieved at the highest levels, but anxiety, perfectionism, or past experiences are in the way of performing at your best. You've tried to push through it, outwork it, and use the same mental toughness that's worked before, but this requires something different. Whether you're navigating injury, transitions, anxiety, or the mental game that separates good from great, you need someone who truly understands performance culture. As a clinical and sports therapist, I get it. I work with competitive athletes, executives, musicians, and actors who are ready to break through mental barriers and consistently perform at their best.

I specialize in healing from complex family dynamics, religious trauma, and cultural disconnection.
You're tired of overthinking every decision and struggling to name what you're actually feeling. You've spent so long managing other people's emotions and keeping the peace that you've lost touch with yourself. Maybe you're navigating complex family dynamics, religious deconstruction, or feeling caught between cultures. Depression, shame, and people-pleasing have become your default. You want to build a life that feels authentic and peaceful. One where you can show up fully without constantly performing. You're ready to heal, not just cope.

In therapy, we will work together to heal from hardships and traumatic experiences. The goal is to empower you with the tools you need to regain hope and carry on, no matter how dark the experiences have colored your world. The wound is the place where the light enters you (Rumi). Do you feel disconnected from yourself, unsure who you are beneath the roles you've learned to play? Maybe you turn to food, substances, self-sabotage, or other habits to cope with feelings that seem too big to hold. Or maybe you keep landing in the same stuck place: new situation, same pattern, same ache of feeling alone in it. Here's the thing: those patterns aren't a character flaw; they're smart. They got you through something (even if they're exhausting now). Together, we'll figure out what they were protecting you from, reconnect with yourself and your body, and build a life that actually feels like yours.

I specialize in childhood trauma, perinatal mental health (prenatal and postpartum), anxiety, identity development, and religious and spiritual trauma.
Overwhelmed. Exhausted. Numb. These may be some of the feelings you're experiencing right now. You want something to be different, but you don’t know where to start. You may feel so consumed with taking care of others that part of you has gotten lost and you don’t know how to get back to “you.” The days go by, but it’s hard to truly connect with and trust others. You may question whether you can even trust yourself. Life has turned into avoiding pain, and the more you push the difficult feelings down, the more overwhelmed and alone you feel. If you are reading this page, some part of you is longing for something to be different.

You’ve felt stressed, overworked, anxious, or sad before but this feels different. You can’t quite put your finger on it. You think today might be different, maybe you’ll feel like yourself again. It’s starting to become overwhelming. Maybe your work or relationships have yet to be impacted, or maybe they have. You begin to notice an overall negative outlook or feeling. Maybe you’re more irritable, feel more tired lately, have unusual physical sensations, or feel as though something terrible is going to happen. Many of my clients report feeling a sense of general unease without really understanding why.

My work blends EMDR (an evidence-based therapy for trauma), CBT, Gottman informed couples work, and family systems thinking.
Are you stuck in the same painful pattern in your relationship, in your past, or in your own head and tired of white-knuckling through it? I'm Monique, an EMDR trained Licensed Professional Counselor (TX) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (FL), who works with individuals (16+) and couples across Texas and Florida. Most of my clients come to me because something from earlier in life, a hard childhood, a betrayal, a loss, a relationship that left a mark keeps showing up in how they love, work, and feel about themselves today. They've often tried talk therapy before and want something that actually moves the needle.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
