For my transgender and LGBTQIA clients, I work to help you feel comfortable in your body and your identity while addressing internalized homophobia and transphobia.
Have you been feeling hopeless and alone, like no one understands you? Are you looking for someone who will listen to you without judgment? If this sounds like you, I would love to help. I am a first-generation biracial Asian American who is physically disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent, and nonbinary. I also have the unique experience of being homeschooled with a history of navigating my own mental health struggles. I often bring my lived experiences into the counseling room to show my clients that they are not alone. My greatest passion is working with those who share identities and experiences with me.

As an LGBTQ+ specialist, I work heavily with gender dysphoria and am one of few people that can treat it with EMDR.
I enjoy working with folks who've tried therapy before, and didn't get what they needed. I love trying out more creative approaches to therapy, and I make sure we're collaborating to find that path you've been searching for. Some of my most rewarding clients are those struggling with self-worth, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Since most folks have struggled with a least a few of these issues, I find myself well equipped to work with just about anyone. Whether you're already motivated and aware of what changes you want to make, or just getting started on your mental health journey, I'll be happy to lend a hand how I can.

I specialize in working transgender and non-binary youth and their families on matters related to gender identity.
My approach to therapy is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. Instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety & depression), I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender & sexuality.

In addition to those issues, I have a focus on teens and adults who struggle with gender identity and gender dysphoria.
Psychotherapy and finding the right therapist can be a challenge. For many, it's finding the right one that provides a comfortable and personable experience. For some it can be tough to open up and get connected. Its those relationships that provide the grounding for effective and helpful treatment. I strive to provide a safe and affirming place to accomplish just that. From there, it can be easier to address and evaluate specific treatments tailored for the individual and provide for a therapeutic experience that you can find valuable and, most importantly, helpful.

I specialize in working with and teaching about LGBTQIA+, queer, transgender, and gender-diverse adults, those with ADHD/Autism, body liberation, unlearning diet culture, and HAES, and former members of high control religions/groups/cults, religious trauma.
Over the years I’ve found that many of the organizations I was part of were inadequately supporting individuals who are queer, trans, disabled, plus-size/larger-bodied/fat, or hold other “non-traditional” or marginalized identities. As a result, I decided I wanted to focus my clinical care on filling the gaps I saw in the mental health field.

I am an affirming therapist for the lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer community (LGBTQ).
You have been struggling for some time with being all alone in the world. You constantly have nagging worries that you will never find happiness or fulfillment. None of your friends understand what you are going through. It is so difficult to believe that things will ever get better. Close partners in your life abandoned you when you needed them the most. You try to move on, but you catch yourself thinking things like, “Am I attractive?” “Why don’t I feel good enough?” "What if I spend the rest of my life alone?" "What if I really am a failure?" The truth is, you deserve to live a life free of worry and fear. You deserve to thrive.

I am an LGBTQ+ ally and work with parents of transgender children.
Accept, choose, and take action. Those are key components of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) style I embrace. ACT therapy encourages individuals to both seek a deeper understanding of occasional unpleasant realities in the world and choose to develop new behaviors which allow them to interact more successfully within that world. Because anxiety, depression and stress can interfere with living an enriched, meaningful life and realizing your valued goals, ACT serves as a way to "reboot" your thinking. In addition, I have been trained in both Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution-focused Therapy.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
