As a clinical and sports therapist, I get it.
I combine EMDR trauma therapy with sport and performance psychology because often what looks like "just" performance anxiety or perfectionism has deeper roots. EMDR allows us to reprocess the experiences that created mental blocks - the injury that shattered your confidence, the failure you can't shake, earlier trauma that shows up when stakes are high.

My graduate degrees are in Athletic Counseling (M.S.) and Sports Psychology (Doctorate). Athletic Counseling targets issues that aren't necessarily sports-related but can detrimentally affect performance. A Mental Coach should have experience playing sports and coaching athletes in order to relate to them.

Have you ever struggled to be your true self? Are there times when you don't feel seen or heard? Do you feel unfulfilled or like something is missing and you’re searching for _____? Perhaps you experience high expectations, doubt, perfectionism, unhealthy thinking patterns, and feel like your best isn’t good enough? So, you find yourself saying you’ll handle it later, it's not that bad, or your concerns will pass– yet the issue never disappears, and you’re left feeling like you're not enough, overwhelmed, out of control, stuck, frustrated, and alone. It may feel difficult to ask for help or you might fear being judged or rejected.

If you’re someone who’s doing everything you can just to keep up, I get it. Maybe you’re a teacher trying to manage impossible expectations and feeling like no matter how much you give, it’s never enough. Maybe you’re a young adult who feels like you should have life figured out by now but don’t. Maybe you’re questioning whether you chose the right path or wondering if it’s too late to make a change. Maybe you’re an athlete pushing yourself harder than anyone realizes, or part of a family navigating changes and responsibilities that feel heavier than expected.

I help teens and young adults navigate high-pressure transitions, especially when burnout, anxiety, or self-doubt begin to take hold. Many of my clients are balancing family expectations, academic or career demands, and the emotional impact of past experiences. I support teens through important “firsts,” including expressing emotions to parents, grief, dating, and preparing for college. I also work with college students and early-career adults navigating stress, identity, and long-distance relationships. I am currently training in EMDR and practice from a trauma-informed lens.

You keep showing up, getting things done, and holding it all together while anxiety, overwhelm, or disconnection quietly take over inside. If you’re used to being the strong one, the capable one, the one who doesn’t fall apart, therapy can be the first place where you finally don’t have to carry everything alone. With over 10 years of experience, I work with adults and couples who are tired of surviving and ready to feel more grounded, connected, and whole. My approach is warm, steady, and deeply human. Together, we’ll slow things down, untangle what you’ve been carrying, and create practical tools that support real, lasting change.

Sports Performance Therapists
How does sports psychology work?
Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualization, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?
The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?
Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?
Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
