As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, my passion is to create a space for queer and neurodivergent immigrants to feel seen and accepted. It is not uncommon for first, second and third culture folks to have experienced therapy that didn’t make space for their cultural identity and sometimes even required them to conform to an individualistic social culture; when the truth is, you don’t have to. You don’t have to suppress or hide any parts of yourself to show up in the world, and you definitely don’t have to do that in this therapeutic space.

Hi! My name is Natasha Backman, and I'm passionate about creating spaces where people can explore their innermost thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. Life can be challenging, and we all deserve a space to get curious about where we’ve been and where we’re going. I'm here to support you, whether you've engaged in counseling before or you need help understanding how this process works. I know that therapy can be a weird and wonderful space. This is our time for healing and growth, in which the only pretense is that we give space for the most authentic version of ourselves.

Welcome. I am now licensed and credentialed to support clients in Texas and Colorado! You may hold multiple, intersecting identities—such as being a person of color, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, or living with chronic illness—and feel the weight of navigating a world that was not built with you in mind. You may feel chronically misunderstood, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from your own needs after years of masking, self-doubt, or relational harm. You’re seeking a space where you don’t have to perform—where you can feel seen, soften your defenses, and reconnect with your inherent worth and internal authority.

As a trauma-informed professional, I use a variety of interventions ranging from somatic to cognitive, to meet the individual needs of my clients.
Welcome. My name is Samatha and I specialize in areas often related to interpersonal trauma such as post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship problems, and issues of social inequity. Interpersonal trauma can include anything from childhood trauma that occurs in the family of origin, to ongoing discrimination in everyday life. Often, trauma interferes with our ability to trust others and the world around us. This makes it very difficult to feel safe and secure in our own skin. It can make it challenging to engage in the present moment and feel fulfilled, and it can compromise our health in many ways.

I work with clients who struggle with somatic symptoms, emotional dysregulation, and cognitive beliefs that do not serve their relationships with self, others, or the world around them.
I am dedicated to healing the scars that trauma inscribes on hearts, in minds, through behaviors. I understand the fragility of the heart, the dark and winding paths that are possible for the mind to follow, and the effects which play out in the body. Moments that are beyond our comprehension, beyond our control, that play out in a narrative that is not of our choosing. It is my passion to come alongside the individual – child, adolescent, teen, young adult, adult – to help bring light to the darkness, and to walk with the family to develop new ways of seeing one another and interacting together.

My therapy style is collaborative, insight-oriented, and deeply reflective. I help patients explore the patterns, parts, and dynamics that shaped them so they can move from unconscious repetition to conscious choice. patients often share that they feel seen, validated, and supported throughout their healing journey. They leave with a deeper awareness of the dynamics that shaped them and a renewed sense of agency in their lives. My hope is that therapy becomes a space where they not only heal but remember their own wholeness.

My clinical interests include women’s issues, identity development, relationship struggles, anxiety, depression, teens, and veterans and their families. If you feel lonely, lost, or are repeating the same patterns in relationships or work without knowing why, let's connect! Are you seeking relief from anxiety, self-doubt, and burnout? Deeper than that, do you want to feel connected to yourself and others in a way that feels real and sustainable? I create a safe space to explore where those patterns come from, how old wounds show up now, and to start building relationships with yourself and others that feel supportive.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
