I work primarily with young adults ranging from 18-30 years old - a life stage full of change. You may be experiencing relationship problems, body image concerns,
sex
/
sexuality
questions, or career/school concerns. This can lead to self doubt, communication difficulties, anxiety, frustration, and depression. When it comes to therapy, you might prefer tangible action steps that you can take to meet your goals, or prefer someone who will listen in a nonjudgmental, curious way. You will receive a flexible, tailored approach based on your needs and preferences.

When sexual issues arise, such as erectile dysfunction (ED), painful
sex
, or mismatched
sex
drive, it can be challenging to navigate your way back to a safe and pleasurable sexual experience.
Sex therapy
can help individuals and couples address these issues and work towards a solution. Additionally, marriage counseling can also be beneficial for couples who are struggling in their relationship and find that the issues in the relationship have caused the
sex
to die out, or if they have never learned how to communicate with one another about what they want sexually.

I specialize in developmental trauma, partner betrayal trauma, couple’s reintegration therapy (post
sex
addiction/problematic sexual behaviors or relationship ruptures), and sexual issues.
Within my work, I have adopted the therapeutic model of trauma recovery from Pia Mellody at The Meadows, as I witnessed firsthand how her Model of Developmental Immaturity has successfully and thoroughly addressed all forms of developmental trauma. I have been trained in Post Induction Therapy (PIT), a method to treat developmental immaturity through inner child and feeling reduction work. This method is used in workshops at The Meadows in Wickenburg, AZ, commonly known as the “Survivors Week.”. I have done specialized training with Dr. Ken Adams, focused on treating parent and adult child enmeshment issues.

In a culture, where judging or joking about the
sexuality
of others is common, talking about personal challenges with our own
sexuality
is often difficult and embarrassing. You may have just learned about an affair or other act of infidelity and are feeling angry, confused, and hurt; may be wondering why you cannot seem to stop compulsive behavior with prostitutes, anonymous partners, or pornography; may have been sexually abused, not knowing how to find peace and move on; or may feel so much anxiety about
sex
that you are unable to enjoy it. I provide a safe place to talk.

We turn to counseling when our problems with our partners/family have us feeling misunderstood and helpless, or when we’ve lost a sense of who we are and our desires, or feel out of control. These struggles, among many others, in combination with daily responsibilities and challenges can feel extremely overwhelming and hinder our ability to thrive. As a therapist, my intention is to provide an authentically safe and holistic therapeutic space that promotes healing, exploration, and growth.

To honestly know yourself is to pursue a lifelong journey of self-exploration, to gain a deeper understanding of oneself in the wake of life events, and, especially, to be willing to share with others who may be navigating a similar quest-- or even with those who are able to extend a great deal of empathy. This may be tough, scary work, but the rewards are invaluable, to put it lightly. You gain a deeper sense of freedom and autonomy to decide how you want to live, and truly become the author of your own story.

Sex Therapy
Who is sex therapy for?
Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.
Why do people need sex therapy?
Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.
What happens in sex therapy?
People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.
What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?
Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
