I had a psychology practice in Austin for 20 years, relocating to Albuquerque in 2012. As an outgrowth of my continuing work with clients from Texas, I have developed a specialty in providing internet therapy. My specialties include eating disorders, complex mood disorders, personality disorders, recovery from narcissistic abuse, and helping families with "failure to launch" young adults. I also provide consultation to parents who are struggling with an oppositional adolescent or an adult child with ongoing difficulties. I provide both therapeutic and forensic psychological evaluations.

I specialize in working with adult survivors of narcissistic , borderline, or antisocial (psychopathic) parents. I also work with people struggling with partners who have these disorders. As a result of this work, I am also skilled in working with trauma. I can help you learn to live without fear, understand your emotions better, and manage your trauma symptoms instead of the managing you. Life is too short to live in fear, to be continually overwhelmed by your emotions, or to be stuck in toxic relationships. I can help you find your way out.

I help people recover from narcissistic abuse by eliminating the confusion in their minds and alleviating the pain in their hearts.
Suddenly the person you felt so sure of has completely disappeared. The person you love is now a monster. The betrayal you feel is so deep. You can’t stop the confusion in your mind and the pain in your heart. The life you once knew has completely changed forever. You don’t recognize yourself. You obsess and ruminate over every detail. Thinking about what could have been said and done is overwhelming. You have so many questions and no answers. The sleepless nights and endless worry are exhausting. Sometimes you feel lost, isolated, afraid, anxious, and depressed. The intense grief is heavy and hard to carry alone. I get you.

I work with individuals who struggle with intense emotional responses, impulsivity, harmful behaviors, relationship issues, and trauma.I also work with individuals who identify as Adult Children of Emotionally Immature/ Narcissistic Parents and are in recovery from emotional abuse. You may feel like you're on an emotional rollercoaster and find it difficult to cope with what you feel others see as “normal” life struggles. You may also find it difficult to set boundaries, feel anxious/overwhelmed with certain relationships and struggle with guilt, shame and invalidation. If this sounds like you, I'd love to help.

With special training in high conflict personalities, I have seen a dramatic increase in clientele who are struggling with spouses, parents and bosses exhibiting traits of narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder and other related personality disorders.
I hear many accounts of people, especially 25-45, feeling overwhelmed with busy lives, feeling numb, trapped or unfulfilled. Sometimes these feelings have lead to out of control behaviors, shame and guilt. Fear of letting others down or failing to meet the perceived standards of our culture can cause the best of us to feel trapped in a spin cycle. I try to provide my clients with a safe, non-judgmental, objective environment to face their fears, feelings and struggles in order to make the way for new thinking and more positive behaviors.

I'm an experienced therapist helping clients cope with childhood trauma and those entrapped in the cycle of mentally and emotionally abusive, manipulative relationships that destroy their sense of worth, safety and sanity. Clients reach out after years of unsuccessfully trying to satisfy their partners or family members and wonder if their loved one is Narcissistic or Borderline. They feel perpetually exhausted, anxious, numb, frazzled, confused, guilty, hopeless, ashamed, inadequate, emotionally unfulfilled, frustrated, walking on eggshells. They may habitually self sacrifice and prioritize others’ needs, yet feel like a failure.

Are you experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression? Being stuck in a toxic situation, especially with a person or people who are narcissistic or manipulative, makes you doubt everything. When you’ve been in a bad situation for so long— whether it’s a toxic relationship, job, family, religious group, or other organization— it can feel like there’s no way out. It is common to feel confused and physically and emotionally drained. You might feel fragile, unsure of yourself and unable to trust. You might be experiencing problems with sleep, digestion and panic attacks.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
