My name is Felicia Cavitt, a Marriage and Family Therapy graduate student at
Abilene Christian University. Driven by my passion for helping others, I strive to
be a listener to each individual’s story and respectfully guide them to liberate
themselves from the forces of hopelessness, the myths and self-defeating reasons
for feeling overwhelmed, vanquished or, stuck and unable to do things differently.
I originally began my journey in working with children and families through
ministries in the church. This allowed me to see how people are defined by

A connected, healthy, and successful marriage is possible.
I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a dynamic, research-based model of therapy that repairs damaged connections between people and those they love the most. This is an effective form of counseling for most couples, regardless of their concerns.

Whether you are working through life struggles, marital problems, depression, anxiety, grief, bipolar disorder or other forms of mental illness, I am here to help you gain the insight and skills need for increased self-awareness, coping, motivation and overall improvement.
While my approach is ecclectic, I primarily use evidenced based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help you identify underlying issues that have led to negative thought and behavioral patterns that keep you trapped in overthinking, low self-worth, low motivation, fear, depression, and anxiety.

I often start sessions with CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy) although I am also trained in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to better tackle different kinds of anxiety/trauma symptoms, and I make use of techniques from my training as a Marriage and Family Therapist to help address relational concerns.
Navigating this world is not easy. We often face pressure from society, work, family, friends, and there never seems to be one, clear answer to our problems. Sometimes, even when we do get advice, it seems contradictory or impossible to follow. We are constantly trying to do better, reach out, and take care of others, but we often forget ourselves in the process. That is where therapy comes in! The best moments, for me, is watching my clients gain insight into their lives, thoughts, and emotions, and help make sense of their experience in a way they have never done before.

I specialize in anxiety, couples' issues & pre- marital counseling, trauma, military members and their family members, and young adults issues (becoming the adult you want to be, navigating relationships, identity, etc.
Starting therapy can feel daunting. Will this therapist understand me? How can I trust this stranger with my most vulnerable thoughts and feelings? Will this really help my anxiety or relationship? Is it worth it?
The truth is, not every therapist is the right fit for you, which is why I offer a FREE 30 minute consultation, so you can see if we would be a good fit before you invest the time, energy, and money into therapy. I love working with young adults and couples and I know it can lead to change if you are committed and willing to try. Seeing the shift from stuck and hopeless to feeling capable of growth is why I love what I do.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
