My toolkit includes Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems ( IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, CBT, DBT and yoga for deep trauma work.
I specialize in working with individuals and couples struggling with relationship issues in this complicated generation of our planet. Primarily, relationship problems involving complex trauma, intimacy concerns, addictive behaviors and codependency. We will carefully untangle any anxiety, self-doubt, obsessive thinking or numbing with internet addictions, work or substances that may no longer be beneficial. Emphasis is placed on integrating new experiences into your life through awareness of where you may be "stuck" in your protective fight-or-flight responses.

I use an integrated approach utilizing emotion-focused therapy, family systems theory, and some mindfulness.
My clients are burned-out peacemakers suffering from anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. They put others before themselves and struggle to set boundaries. Many had difficult childhoods where their emotional needs weren't fully met and may struggle with ongoing difficult family relationships with their parents and extended families. I provide individual, couples, and family therapy both virtually and in-person.

Using IFS and CBT, you will learn to cut through the noise of worry with mindfulness and self-compassion practices, encouragement, curiosity and humor.
You feel as if you're in a spiraling vortex, unable to free yourself from anxiety's grip. You keep falling back into habits of people pleasing, self-doubt, overthinking and beating yourself up for it all. You second guess all your decisions, replaying conversations in your mind and wondering if you said the right thing. You've become so burnt out that you want to scream. However, you've grown used to putting on the facade for so long that it's difficult to articulate what you're going through. The pressure to maintain that mask of perfection is suffocating but the fear of showing vulnerability makes breaking free seem impossible.

My primary theoretical approach to counseling is Internal Family Systems ( IFS).
I believe counseling should not only take a holistic approach to addressing the everyday person (mind, body, soul), but strives to create a therapeutic alliance that promotes healing the relational bonds in one’s everyday life (internal, external, environmental). I also believe the counseling process is a collaborative alliance between the therapist and client(s) based on honesty, trust, and mutual respect. As I take this journey alongside you, we will explore your current concerns, identify hindering beliefs and behaviors, and work together to create and reach your goals.

I use Mindfulness based, Expressive Arts, IFS- informed methods and body-based healing methods in my trauma- focused work.
Healing from trauma is possible. But you don't have to do this alone. People pleasing, family stress, anger, chronic pain, addictions, shame, insecurity; just a few ways trauma tends to show itself in your life. When people decide to get curious about how the wounding moments in life have impacted their self-worth and worldview, then healing can occur. I help people let go of shame, rediscover who they are, and find some reasons to smile again. You deserve to heal. And you deserve support through this process. I would be honored to help discover what healing looks like for you, should you choose to no longer travel that path alone.

I am certified in EMDR, have completed Level One IFS training, as well as Level Two in IFIO for working with couples.
I bet you are ready to get the root of the challenges you find yourself facing each day. You have probably tried different approaches with no luck, and you’re wanting to move toward healing so life feels calm and enjoyable. After working with me, people understand themselves in a new way, and are able to have more compassion for themselves and others, while still holding boundaries with self respect. I believe therapy is about building a trusting relationship - between us, and within yourself. In my experience, both profesional and personal, these relationships lead toward healing and wholeness. www.amandasteed.com

Through an eclectic approach of modalities (CBT, ACT, IFS, Compassion), I work with you to increase your self awareness.
You've always been the one who follows the rules & does everything they're supposed to do. While you've achieved a lot, you still feel disconnected from your life & yourself. You're realizing how many of your decisions, big & small, were made with others' interests in mind, not what is best for you or what you actually wanted. You worry about doing or saying the wrong thing or being rejected by those most important to you. So you comply, go with the flow & pretend you're easy going & unbothered. You followed all the rules, so why doesn't life feel better than this?

EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy have proven to be the most effective tools in eliminating the disturbing content, disturbing images and thoughts in relationship to your trauma.
Trauma is often weaved in and through the fabric of our lives. Many think of trauma as one large scale traumatic event. However, complex trauma is not a single event. Trauma is betrayal, failed attachment to our parents, experiencing abuse/neglect, multiple losses, shattered relationships, or the inability to protect ourselves emotionally with healthy boundaries. The most disturbing part of a trauma is not only the event itself, but how we perceived the event, and the internalized negative core beliefs about ourselves that developed. Ketamine assisted therapy is now offered.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
