Few things are as miserable as damaged trust in a relationship. You’re mad, hurt, and don’t know if you want to stay or not. When you’ve done things you regret, you feel lost, guilty, confused, and conflicted. When it is you that has been emotionally hurt, you feel betrayed and now your safe place is gone. Frequent ugly fights leave you resentful and walking on eggshells, waiting for one to crack. They are openly and publicly disinterested, critical, or unsupportive. Infidelity feels like a bomb exploded in your life now and you're living a bizarre bad dream. An addict's lies, and emotional absence erode their credibility.

I have published a book: What Happens After Shattered? Finding Hope and Healing After Infidelity .
I enjoy working with individuals with Bipolar Disorder to help them develop a treatment plan and to provide useful education about the disorder. Accurate information is critical in developing acceptance of the disorder and fighting stigma. Regarding infidelity , I work to help the patient(s) heal from the trauma and heartbreak of infidelity . Managing anger or obsessive thoughts, learning to be vulnerable again, and developing forgiveness are important goals for the betrayed spouse, whether separating or reconciling. Rebuilding trust, adhering to total honesty (the hallmark of healing), and being behaviorally accountable are tasks that I help the straying spouse develop.

As an EMDR trained, sex addiction and experienced betrayal trauma therapist I use a trauma and attachment informed approach to get to the bottom of what is causing the pain.
Whether you can’t seem to manage your own impulses, anxiety or pain, or someone else’s choices have left you feeling stuck and in pain, it’s often hard to find a single safe person to telI. I want to be a safe place for you, where you feel it’s okay to be who you are. Together we can take a look at which ways of thinking and reacting are helping you reach your goals, and which parts of yourself may have helped you get to where you are but are now not effective in helping you move forward. As you learn to see your whole story and learn new tools to respond in a way that line up with your true value, healing begins.

I counsel married couples desiring healing from a spouse's infidelity or those just seeking to obtain a deeper connection with their spouse.
In one's walk towards wholeness and change, there are various barriers and hindrances one must overcome: The prism in which we view life, the messages we received about ourselves from our family of origin, what has happened to us and what we tell ourselves about it, our fear of feelings, and our learned coping mechanisms are just a few. As a Christian counselor, it is my desire to provide a safe and accepting environment in which we can walk and work together to expose, understand, and overcome these barriers.

I address issues of sexual abuse and addiction, partners of infidelity or sex addicts trauma, substance abuse, developmental immaturity, divorce, and failure to launch young men.
Many people see therapy as a one-sided conversation, with little opportunity for interaction or getting to experience each other as real people. I can promise you that I am as real as it gets! I want to help you achieve whatever solutions and life changes you are looking for while enjoying the process as much as possible and experiencing yourself in new ways. Simply put, I don't believe therapy has to always be a painful thing. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment (and maybe a deep breath) to call and see how I can help.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
