What does secure attachment feel like? I work with individuals and couples navigating the most painful and complex relationship issues. Using an attachment-based lens to explore your story, I'll help you find calm. We'll reveal relationship patterns as mirrors of underlying trauma and attachment needs that are ready to be understood now. Through awareness of where you may have been stuck in protective fight-or-flight stress responses, we can create space for growth and meaningful connection.

You wake up already tired, wishing you could stay under the covers and avoid another day that’s bound to be “too much.” What used to bring joy now feels distant, and every task feels like pushing a boulder uphill. You’re moving through life in a fog – like it’s just happening to you. You keep showing up and going through the motions, but deep down, you wonder how long you can keep doing this. The sadness feels endless, the hopelessness feels loud, and you barely recognize the version of yourself you have become. You want relief, direction, and a way to feel like yourself again instead of someone just trying to make it through.

Prior to working at LifeStance, Abby began her counseling career by working at Dallas Life Foundation - a homeless shelter and relief organization in downtown Dallas. This first experience gave Abby a well-rounded view of the human experience and struggle. It also instilled in her a passion to provide mental health care to anyone in need, particularly the marginalized and underprivileged. Before Dallas Life, immediately after departing her undergraduate studies, Abby adventured on a eleven-month mission trip to eleven countries and continued that journey as a overseas missionary for the next eight years.

Making the decision on which therapist to work with is based on many factors. Perhaps the most important factor is finding someone you are comfortable with so they can be of help. My goal in working with clients is to start by establishing a nonjudgmental, yet honest, relationship that is supportive enough to explore topics and gain insight into issues most relevant to them. I have experience working with clients from all backgrounds with a variety of difficulties, including relationship issues, life transitions, depression, identity struggles, anxiety, and grief.

I provide individual therapy for adults who may feel overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or unsure how to move forward. Many of the people I work with hold it together on the outside while struggling internally with anxiety, emotional pain, or patterns rooted in early attachment and relational experiences. I primarily use EMDR and an IFS-informed approach to help clients process distressing experiences and reconnect with parts of themselves that feel stuck or wounded. I believe healing happens when we attend to the connection between brain, body, and emotions, understanding how the nervous system learned to adapt for survival.

Hoarding Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
