Family Therapy in Dallas, TX

I have experience working with couples for premarital counseling, communication problems, infidelity, parenting, and blended family issues.
When I work with clients, I am looking for thought and behavioral patterns that we can assess, question and modify, as needed. I often rely on cognitive behavioral therapy and the Gottman method. I also provide faith-based counseling if requested.

Covid-19 has disrupted nearly all our connections with friends, family, work, and community.
My principles of practice include Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Humanistic Psychology, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Imago Therapy, and 12-Step recovery principles. In short, these are approaches that aim to enrich a person's strengths, rather than fix what's "broken." I don't believe anyone is broken.

Your family is struggling.
Knowing everyone's life is a unique puzzle, I hope to help every person or family I work with put the puzzle back together again. Fitting a child or children in a family's puzzle can even be a tougher feat.

If white knuckling, self shaming, and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps worked, you’d be “cured” a billion times over. It doesn’t. At least not for me or people whose brains are different. Our minds race and it feels impossible to turn off and rest. Sometimes we use substances or other behaviors in a harmful way just to get through the day. There’s more to life out there. A more peaceful and meaningful life is possible. We need to go deeper and get to the root of things. I’ll go with you. Unable to take insurance.

With work, family, kids, and relationships (and anything else), maintaining everything has proven to be a herculean task.
I often see clients struggling in their relationships, many seeking help only when things have worsened. Through guided feedback, I help couples reconnect and feel close again by rekindling their initial spark. My sessions focus on teaching couples how to engage emotionally, improve their conflict resolution, and build a purposeful, connected relationship.

I work with clients who may be struggling with depression or trauma related to their relationships or family.
I believe that asking for help, and taking the first step with a new therapist is often the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I feel that there is not a one size fits all approach to therapy. We are all very different, we have varying life experiences and most of all we do not all process or feel things in the same way. I will help you identify your goals and objectives, and we will work towards them together. How we feel now is often temporary and does not have to be that way forever.

We constantly seek connection and a sense of belonging in our personal, family and work lives.
I use cognitive-behavioral counseling techniques to help people connect in their personal and professional lives. I can help you bridge the gap between communication and connection. I employ this "relational science" to help you work through the conflict and stress of your personal, career, and family life. Conflict is simply "growth trying to happen."

I have found Internal Family Systems ("parts work") & EMDR to be extremely effective at helping people experience themselves in new, compassionate ways quickly and lastingly.

I want to help you live by your values while making changes that help life not feel like such a slog. Let’s help you experience yourself and your situation in a whole new way.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
