Are you overwhelmed by your stress, emotions, or current ways of thinking? Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, a romantic or family relationship, decision, or difficult adjustment/transition period? Regardless of what you are facing, I work from a belief that all people have resiliency to face life's challenges-and my role is to help you find that strength within yourself. With every client, I am genuinely interested in learning more about you and how I can be most helpful-which means I will use an individualized/customized approach, as opposed to a "one-size fits all" treatment.

My view of the therapeutic relationship is not limited to just the client but is a holistic picture of their entire family system.
We all have a story that impacts who we are today. Part of your journey to discovery and healing is telling that story. I provide a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment for my clients to share, explore, and process life's events on their path to growth and healing. I have experience working with clients who are dealing with trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, marital issues, and other mental health struggles. My door is open to everyone. It is my priority to meet my clients where they are and provide unconditional positive regard to everyone I work with.

Making the decision to seek support can be a difficult task and shows courage. Opening up and sharing your private thoughts, emotions, fears, and experiences with a therapist can be frightening. However within a trusting, confidential, and healthy therapeutic relationship it can also be rewarding and a great benefit. I make it a point to never take for granted the gift clients give in revealing their personal history in the context of therapy. I endeavor to assist you in gaining insight, use new approaches to aid in making positive adjustments in your interpersonal, family , social, and work life.

I am a certified EMDR practitioner and consultant and am either trained or informed in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), IMAGO, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems), EFIT, expressive therapies, and motivational interviewing.
What drew me to the counseling field was my passion to advocate for people who have experien trauma (relational, spiritual, physical, sexual, emotional, and more). I take an eclectic approach, meeting you wherever you are in the process and tailoring treatment based on my extensive training in trauma modalities. I cherish this process and helping survivors heal. As a mother of two, I have plenty of material to pull from and am equally passionate about working with parents, especially those who are facing parenting transitions and blended families. With support, validation and humor, I can help make parenting fun again.

I deeply believe that when there is a member in the family who is struggling, the whole family is adversely impacted. Issues that may affect a family member include anger, anxiety, depression, sibling or parental conflicts, a learning difference or a past traumatic experience. Other difficult issues include individuals and families dealing with separation, divorce, co-parenting and other situations where families are raising children between two homes. I will help you to develop the understanding, skills and strategies needed to better equip yourself and your family to deal with particular circumstances or stressful transitions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
