Whenever we experience interpersonal betrayal or abuse , we often feel as if we have lost a part of ourselves. We can experience a range of feelings such as shame, isolation and have difficulty offering ourselves compassion. After such pain, it can be hard to trust other people again as well as yourself. You may have trouble forming a healthy relationship with yourself and creating deep connections with other people. Together, we can create a safe space for you to find your voice, discover who you are, and build meaningful experiences again. My approach is to meet you where you are by working from your values and belief system.

Do you feel like you're going crazy? That you just cannot do anything right? Do you feel stuck but want to leave? Are you being: belittled, criticized, stalked, harassed, accused of cheating, or threatened? Or maybe, you are the one feeling insecure in the relationship and are doing these things. Relationships can be hard and confusing so I am here to help with guidance. This is individual counseling. I do not provide couples counseling due to the toxic nature of abuse . I want the person to feel safe coming to me and sometimes, people can hold back or feel unsafe due to a partner's actions.

I am currently taking clients! It’s challenging to seek help. To understand that simply existing and surviving aren’t enough anymore. Therapy is, feeling, and processing, and moving through emotions that we typically try to avoid in hopes of them disappearing. But like much research has shown, that’s simply not the case. Healing requires processing but it does not need to be done alone. For the past decade I have been working with people who have experienced different forms of abuse ; emotional, physical, sexual, and mental abuse . Those are all experiences we want to shove away and never speak of again.

My background experience is with survivors of abuse and children/teens in foster care using attachment models to improve family dynamics.
I am thankful and encouraged that you have started exploring therapy. I acknowledge this first brave step. I don’t believe therapy is a “one size fits all,” and place high priority on working to find a treatment model that best fits your goals and needs. Whether you are seeking therapy to heal from a history of or recent trauma, learn healthy coping skills, process grief, identify patterns of negative thinking and behavior, improve family dynamics or find new parenting strategies, we can find a treatment plan that uniquely suits you.

I have specialized training in trauma, women’s issues, postpartum depression, anxiety disorders, spiritual abuse , and self-esteem/confidence.
I believe people want to live well, but often things happen that are out of our control. This can cause us to have difficulty managing stress, feel anxious, sad, empty, isolated, and even feel the effects on our physical body. My therapeutic approach focuses on providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can work together to identify beliefs that make it challenging to live the life you really want. We will explore life events that may have caused barriers between you and your goals, and together work to learn effective skills to use outside of therapy.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
