While working with couples and families, I often see this pattern of listening to respond or proclaiming an assumption before truly hearing their loved one. It’s an unfortunate habit that can create insecurity, fear, anxiety, and distrust in relationships. Sometimes, slowing down and paying closer attention to the pattern of communication will help us catch these fears, concerns, insecurities or misunderstandings. Most of the clients I treat have co occurring diagnosis including Bipolar, Major Depression, PTSD, and/or Anxiety. I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults. We then take on addictive behaviors to avoid feeling reality.
