Is your child acting out? Is your teenager exhibiting symptoms of depression or anxiety? Are you a young adult struggling in
relationship
or with your life path? Are there feelings and behaviors separating you and your
spouse
? Each one of us has a vision of how our lives are “supposed” to go — the kind of person we’re supposed to be, the kind of relationships we’re supposed to be in, the path we’re supposed to be on. Yet, life often gives us a different story to tell... What if there was a space, a place to take a moment? A safe space where you can be heard with compassion and acceptance, toward making a plan for healing and growth.

My clients would describe me as easy to talk to, a great listener, honest, and informed. I find great value in creating a foundation of trust and comfortability so my clients can work to meet their therapeutic goals. Counseling is most effective when the client feels accepted and believes the therapist genuinely cares about the topics discussed during session. I get it! Everything feels “off.” You can’t quite put your finger on it. It feels like if you say it out loud, you’ll seem crazy or unstable. Staying quiet when you’re struggling leaves you feeling stuck, but you don’t have to be. That’s what I’m here for. Let’s sort through your problems, thoughts, questions, and wonderings together and find our way to feeling well.

Though I believe parents typically know their children better than anyone else, a thorough understanding of a child's particular communication style and behavioral motivations serves to enrich the parent-child
relationship
, and I am honored to be a part of that process.
I help children and families in many different ways. Some are struggling with a range of psychological and emotional challenges, others are proactively seeking support and guidance. My therapeutic style is open and accepting, and varies slightly depending upon the age of the client. With younger children, my goal is to ensure they feel successful and understood. For parents, I hope to educate and encourage their interactions with their child or children.

I work well with clients experiencing disordered eating or navigating eating disorder recovery, with histories of trauma and abuse, and those working through negative self-esteem and low self-worth. Many of my clients come to therapy searching for the "why": why they engage in certain behaviors, hold specific beliefs, or repeat the same
relationship
patterns over and over. Although there may not be a single “why,” exploring our pasts can help us understand our present-day behaviors, beliefs, and patterns. Oftentimes, it is this exploration and understanding that becomes a powerful catalyst for change.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
