I help women manage anxiety, codependency, depression, trauma, relationships, family-of-origin concerns, self-esteem issues, shame, perinatal and postpartum.
You’re having a hard time finding your voice to express your needs. You may even feel guilty when trying to stand up for yourself. You struggle with feeling powerless and have a desire for certainty. You long for quality relationships but feel anxious and struggle with self-doubt. You feel confused trying to identify who you are or understanding what makes you happy. You’re wondering if your upbringing or past is impacting your view of yourself & your current relationships. Together, we can look at your experiences to foster courage, create awareness of the belief systems holding you back, and build self-acceptance.

I work with adult couples and individuals struggling with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, codependency, anger management, and more. More often than not, the underlying cause of the problem is an unhealthy pattern of behaviors or thought which keeps us stuck in exactly the situation we are trying to avoid. In order to find a way forward we first have to recognize the unhealthy patterns we are stuck in and the steps we need to take to get out of them. There are many ways to do this, and I am very comfortable tailoring my approach to individual clients to help them get the best results possible.

Guided and inspired by my personal experiences, 15 years of addiction and codependency recovery, as well as my clinical and professional training, my approach is compassionate, understanding, and non-judgmental.
In a culture, where judging or joking about the sexuality of others is common, talking about personal challenges with our own sexuality is often difficult and embarrassing. You may have just learned about an affair or other act of infidelity and are feeling angry, confused, and hurt; may be wondering why you cannot seem to stop compulsive behavior with prostitutes, anonymous partners, or pornography; may have been sexually abused, not knowing how to find peace and move on; or may feel so much anxiety about sex that you are unable to enjoy it. I provide a safe place to talk.

I specialize in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, codependency, betrayed partners of sex addicts, addiction and relationship issues. The underlying components of codependency, self-destructive behaviors and addictions can stem from negative core beliefs that are deeply-rooted and eventually make our lives unbearable. These negative core beliefs are implanted in our brains making us believe thoughts such as, “I am not good enough”, “I am unlovable” and can eventually lead to troubled relationships, codependency, depression, anxiety, and addiction.

Many of the individuals I work with struggle with issues surrounding self-esteem, people pleasing, and caretaking behaviors. Often times, these issues lead to feelings or symptoms of depression or anxiety. It is hard to live our crazy busy lives day in and day out while handling the heaviness of our feelings and caretaking the feelings of those around us. Where I see these issues arise is in relationships that thrive in codependency, such as caring for a loved one who has an addiction, parenting and postpartum, and in being the primary or default caretaker for others.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
