My areas of specialization include complex trauma, the polyvagal approach to nervous system awareness and regulation, and attachment-based , mindfulness, and other trauma-informed therapies.
Our ability to grow and develop is almost limitless. While we may not easily recognize it, we all have strengths and abilities to aid in meeting our goals. Through helping uncover those strengths and abilities, while providing in depth psychoeducation in attachment theory, mind/body and nervous system function, and regulation techniques, I assist people in navigating challenges such as complex trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, self-harm, chronic stress, behavioral problems, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

I help people turn their scars into beauty marks with the use of EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Parts & Inner Child Work, Mindfulness practices & other Attachment-Based Modalities.
You know that saying “Never judge a book by its cover”? Well, I can honestly say that the cover of my book does not match the pages! The pages in my book of life have equipped me with the experience to connect with ALL people. In my book, I’ve encountered many conflicts. I’ve been the antagonist and the protagonist and I’m just in the rising action. Because my pages are not all filled with butterflies and sunshine, I’ve had to work to find ways to help equip myself with daily coping skills. I am happy to be in a position to share my experience with others through therapy and educational opportunities.

Regina is passionate about working with couples experiencing betrayal trauma and addiction to restore or create a secure attachment. She has training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment based modality that tracks the negative interaction cycle and patterns that cause distress and result in insecure attachment and disconnection. She gently guides the couple to explore themselves and their partner, learn to emotionally regulate, and cope with negative feelings in more healthy ways. Additionally, she is EMDR trained and can provide researched-based techniques for clients experiencing trauma and symptoms of PTSD.

I practice using attachment-based narrative art therapy and EMDR Therapy.
I help people who have experienced trauma or distressing life events, rewrite old stories that are no longer serving them. Art is a dynamic and tangible tool that allows for self-expression, freedom to make mistakes, and acts as an extension of the self. I use the process of art with clients and a mind-body connection to cultivate positive change and growth. The therapy room and artwork can act as a container to hold space for fear, hopes, and desires. With this newfound awareness and openness, clients begin to shift their narrative to a story of resiliency, self-compassion, and confidence to be the best version of themselves.

Do you ever ask yourself, “How did I get here?” I am an Attachment-based therapist, which means I help you explore connections between your childhood and adult experiences and relationships– how your past may be influencing your present.
There has been a recent conflict of loss with someone you love or within yourself that is causing you pain, unwanted stress and despair, or other intense emotions. Maybe you’re struggling in your marriage or relationships, or maybe you’re struggling to meet your needs in this difficult season of life. The exciting and hopeful message is that we ALWAYS have the power and ability to change our thinking, perceptions, and reactions to life situations! Underneath the pain is an opportunity to make new decisions to choose differently for ourselves.

There is no greater freedom than living in your true self, a self authentically and lovingly connected to others. It’s how we are built. It’s how our children are built. Living the kind of balance many of us aspire to looks a heck of lot easier in print than it is in action. It takes work to integrate it all, but it is so worth it.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
