Have you ever struggled to be your true self? Are there times when you don't feel seen or heard? Do you feel unfulfilled or like something is missing and you’re searching for _____? Perhaps you experience high expectations, doubt, perfectionism, unhealthy thinking patterns, and feel like your best isn’t good enough? So, you find yourself saying you’ll handle it later, it's not that bad, or your concerns will pass– yet the issue never disappears, and you’re left feeling like you're not enough, overwhelmed, out of control, stuck, frustrated, and alone. It may feel difficult to ask for help or you might fear being judged or rejected.

I'm a certified Art Therapist who uses Somatic Experiencing and Attachment therapy to help clients make lasting change in their lives.
My clients would describe me as compassionate, creative, and understanding. For therapy to work, it’s important the client truly trusts the process. My clients and I form genuine relationships and respect for each other, which yields really great results. I take a holistic, trauma informed approach in my work. I enjoy using the creative process alongside clients as they create fulfilling lives. I strongly believe that clients have the answers to their own healing.

I currently have limited openings/time slots available! Understanding your own story is one of the bravest and most healing things a person can do. Therapy with me is a collaborative approach to learn how to process stressful experiences, how to cope and manage symptoms/ life stressors, and how to be vulnerable in a safe, nonjudgemental space. Therapy is a step you take for yourself when you are ready to make lasting changes in your life. As your counselor, I want to help you achieve your goals, navigate life changes, and process stressful experiences. Therapy can be challenging, and it can also be an enjoyable experience as well.

I am here to help, whether this is a new diagnosis, a self-diagnosis, or if you were diagnosed long ago and dealing with the potential trauma and affects related to a medicalized diagnosis.

Life is hard. You don't have to face it alone. As a previous classroom educator and Dyslexia Specialist, I am passionate about helping people grow and learn in the classroom and through mental health counseling. I utilize a Child-Centered and Adlerian approach to play therapy to speak to children through their language, which is play. Attuning to teenagers and adults to help them gain self-awareness regarding their thoughts and insecurities and build inner strength/resilience is an innate passion I possess.

Past clients have struggled with depression, anxiety, trauma, women's issues, ADHD, relationship concerns. Some challenges that some long-term clients have presented with are intellectualizing over feelings, avoidance of core issues, feeling stuck, lack of follow through with home practicing assignments. I have worked in various treatment facilities as well as in private practice supporting individuals in the LGBTQ community. My goal is to meet each person right where they are offering respect, support, affirmation, and a safe space for them to foster healing.

I work with individual adults, couples, families, and children (ages 3 - 10) and together we curate helpful ways to cope with everyday life and relationships. I encourage clients to focus on their inner strengths and make choices that bring them closer to their goals. I believe our thoughts, behaviors, values, and beliefs begin in our early years within our families of origin. These years, along with the life experiences and challenges we encounter along the way serve to shape us. Uncovering how these thoughts and behaviors impact our daily life is an important step toward healing, change, and freedom.

I believe in creating a safe space for clients to process, explore, and express emotions through art.
“When you’re not used to being confident, confidence can feel like arrogance. When you’re used to being passive, assertiveness feels like aggression. When you’re not used to getting your needs met, prioritizing yourself feels selfish. Your comfort zone is not a good benchmark.” - Dr. Vassilia

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you want a happier life, but don't know how to get it and keep it. You could be dealing with racial identity, LGBTQIA+ challenges, family boundaries, struggling with relationships, going through a life transition, or feeling burned out and unheard. It doesn't have to stay this way.

Do you find yourself at a crossroads and in need of some support? While change can be scary it can also offer new opportunities for growth and insight. Transitions can light up the unhealed parts of us, and make it difficult to discern our truth from the stories we’ve been told about who others think we are. My role in this is to help you discern what you want to take with you along the way and explore with you what’s standing in the way of you living your most authentic life.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
