A few areas that I specialize in are Attachment issues, Adoption, Kinship Care, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Parenting, Behavioral Issues in children, and general Trauma.
I believe that everyone needs someone who will give them a safe, non-judgmental place to work through problems or stresses. I see the role of a therapist as someone who dives into the deep end of your emotions/problems and helps guide you on how to swim your way out. I will be there if you start to drown to help keep your head above water, but I will also help you develop the skills to get out of the deep end and know how to navigate it should you end up there again.

You’ve been feeling disconnected from your adopted child/ren. It’s been so exhausting that it’s led to burnout. You’ve even started to build resentment. You wish parenting wasn't so draining, impossible, and difficult. You pour everything into your kids, and it's never enough. You want the deep connection you always hoped for. Some days, you’re so angry and bitter because this is not what being a mom was supposed to be like and certainly not what you signed up for when you adopted. You long to feel joy and connection in parenting.

People generally come to therapy because there is some area of their life in which they are stuck and in pain. I practice from an “attachment” perspective which is the key to unlocking a different way of understanding yourself and your interactions with others, opening a pathway to practical and relational healing. My office is a no-blame/no-shame environment. I provide both traditional talk therapy as well as Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) to individuals (age 10 and up), couples, and families just 20 miles SE of Dallas. Because of my experience as an adoptive dad, foster and adoptive families are a focus of my practice.

Parenting can feel confusing and heavy, especially when your child’s behavior leaves you unsure of how to help. You may notice big emotions, withdrawal, or reactions that don’t seem to make sense. In our work together, we slow things down to understand what your child is communicating beneath the behavior. I support both children and parents in strengthening connection, building emotional skills, and creating calmer, more confident moments at home.

You're carrying more than most people know. The anxiety that won't quit. The quiet shame. The relational patterns you keep repeating no matter how aware you are of them. Old wounds have a way of running the show long after you think they should.
You've probably been in therapy before. You know the language, you understand your patterns but something still isn't shifting. The patterns are still there. You're not looking for basic coping tools or psychoeducation. You want to actually get to the root. You're ready to do deep work with a therapist who can meet you there. If that's you, I'd love to connect.

As a trauma therapist with comprehensive training from The Family Institute at Northwestern University and a background in mind-body science, I help clients who seek meaningful change, in both brief/intensive treatment and/or ongoing therapy. EMDR Intensives are for those ready to move beyond distressing experiences. These longer (but fewer) sessions allow for highly concentrated treatment. Participants report increased emotional tolerance and that this focused work has allowed them to experience progress and relief sooner and more efficiently.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
