My experience encompasses substance abuse, self-harm, domestic violence, trauma, adolescent behavioral issues, relational issues, family conflict, parenting, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, Adjustment Disorders, Bipolar, Borderline, and ADHD.
Nothing in life is one size fits all; therapy is no exception. My first priority is to establish a trusting relationship with you, then together create goals tailored to your individual needs. As humans, we tend to shy away from uncomfortable, unwanted, or overwhelming feelings/thoughts. We all develop habits to cope; sometimes those habits may no longer be helpful. In a non-judgmental and safe environment, we will work together, unlock your potential and create the change you desire. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and fully trained in EMDR in Texas.

I’ve worked with adults, children, adolescents, families with a variety of backgrounds, and have extensive experience treating trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety and child/adolescent behavioral disorders.
My philosophy is one of pragmatism, based on treating each client as an individual with specific needs and empowering clients through education as well as introspection. My greatest goal is to help others develop into healthy and whole individuals, and to embrace life’s journey. In the therapeutic process, I empower the client to discover their own resolve, while at the same time directing the client into a safe path of self-discovery.

I know that therapy can be uncomfortable or a hard process to trust for a teen and their parent.
I work with pre-teens, and teens. I love helping youth navigate the unique challenges that come with developing their identity. I help teens dealing with issues that make them feel misunderstood, unmotivated, or not good enough. I value providing a safe, confidential space for kids and teens, but I encourage some parent involvement and parent solutions. I specialize in the stuck teen, experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and frustration with those around them. I also help parents know how to comfort and teach their teens. I understand how new uncertainties affects teens mood and identity. I want to help!

Have you been searching for a therapist who truly connects with you, your teen, or partner? You’ve tried different things, but the communication, relationships, and interactions in your family are just discouraging and frustrating. You’ve tried therapy before, and even considered more intensive treatment options for yourself or your child. You don’t know what else to do. You are not alone. It is possible to establish changes intra-personally and within relationships. Family harmony can be a reality.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
