I utilize Somatic therapies, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, trauma informed yoga, and DBT.
Hi! I'm Angela. You are ready to dig deep and face all the avoidance in your life and feel those damn feels so you can embody your life without disordered eating, over working, or panic attacks? Do you want to feel at home in your body? Are you tired and burned out of the energy it takes to hate your body and obsess about food? Are you want to experience the magic of yoga and meditation to help you with just "being."? Are you desiring a life with boundaries around work so you can continue to explore your passion? If you answered yes to any of these I know I can help.

I will respond within 24 hours. My goal is to help children thrive. Many parents have watched their children struggle. Their grades are dropping, they don't seem to be making friends, they refuse to go to school, they act out at home or in the classroom... sound familiar? You may feel scared, desperate, or frustrated because nothing seems to help. You want to support your child, but you just aren’t sure what to do anymore. I understand, and I am here for you!

Are you in a transitional phase of life struggling with understanding your identity, anxiety, and self- acceptance? Maybe you find yourself wondering "What's wrong with me?" or "Where do I belong?" Whether it’s trying to figure out your sexual or gender identity, feeling unhappy with your sex life, or feeling sad but not knowing why—many people feel like they have to keep their struggles hidden. Maybe you’ve avoided therapy because it's too weird for you to discuss these feelings, or you fear being judged or misunderstood. It sucks to feel alone like that...but you don't have to.

As we move through the process of healing, I also provide coping skills, compassion, acceptance, and a safe space to explore new ways of being.
You are aching to live a more authentic, fulfilling and empowered life, yet you are struggling to know how to proceed. I get it. I have been there. We build lives on foundations based in old programs, expectations, and beliefs and then when we feel the call for something more, we can feel stuck, anxious, or guilt. The life we built no longer suits us and we need help navigating change as we rebuild. Perhaps a relationship, a career, a midlife awakening (or pandemic) has triggered a longing for something more meaningful or fulfilling. Or maybe, something less- less drama, less stress, less anxiety, less soul sucking.

The work we do will pair a radical acceptance of Self and the predicament we find ourselves in with an active commitment towards increased self-awareness.
My clients come from diverse backgrounds but all have one thing in common: they are bound by past traumas that continue to control their present day. My primary theoretical approach is one of interpersonal and holistic psychology that draws from acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic, existential, feminist, and multicultural counseling work. I use meditative practice and applied mindfulness as well as a holistic trauma model to allow my clients to find peace within themselves while also equipping them with the skills needed to continue their personal growth after therapy is complete.

My experience in working with clients has taught me that I am not the perfect therapist for everyone. I use metaphors and my writing background to help clients view their worlds in a different way. I have trained with EMDR and utilize it with clients to assist in managing trauma. I have worked with clients struggling with addictions of many kinds, and I utilize ACT and narrative therapy on a regular basis.

We can only live, choose, and act in this present moment.
Stormy and racing thoughts. Emotional pain. Old hurts. Worries about the future. Quick to anger or to run. Behavioral habits blocking the life you want. These are the kinds of life challenges that I specialize in working with using evidence-based methods to help you build the highest expression of YOUR life. YOU are the expert in your life. That being said, like mountain climbers on adjacent mountains, a therapist can help you see terrain on your mountain that you might not be able to see from your position on it. I particularly have specialized in areas around partner violence, anger/aggression, and trauma.

While I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), and often borrow from aspects of psychodynamic therapy, I also look to other perspectives or modalities, so as to best address the needs of each client.
Many of us have been taught to be rational planners, as if mastery over our thoughts and emotions is a norm. In reality, life doesn't wait for us to neatly organize our thoughts and fully steady ourselves emotionally. Nor does life promise to be free of pain, even at the height of success. I can't promise to help you find an unbreakable peace of mind, or promise to help you find joy at will. However, if you're looking to redevelop your relationship with heart and mind, derive greater fulfillment from the full spectrum of your emotions, and choose meaningful directions in your day-to-day living, I'm here to take those steps with you.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
