I have been a counselor working with children, adults, and families for 25 years. I have worked with survivors of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and have extensive experience working with children with behavioral and emotional issues and supporting parents in these situations. I work effectively with those dealing with depression and anxiety as well as other mental health diagnoses that are causing discomfort.

My clinical background includes a robust, private practice with in depth expertise in working with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, anger management, relationships and attachment disorders. In addition, I am also a SAP for the DOT, a CISM credentialed provider, with a focus on individual and mass community trauma, and a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Specialist. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I held significant corporate positions at a Fortune 500 Company (IBM) and partnered with one of America's Largest Private Companies (New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc).

Feelings that result from experiences in life are unique to each person, and they each deserve a partner to work through their difficulties. My specialization is in assisting individuals who are dealing with feelings resulting from loss or traumatic experiences, whether recently or long ago. It has been shown that trauma is commonly experienced by individuals who survive a loved one's death by suicide or other violence, the death of a child, or any unexpected death. Also, many suffer grief or internal conflict from other life experiences such as miscarriage, infertility, and other transitions in life (aging, retirement, divorce.)

My clientele for the past 30+ years have been largely executives and business owners referred by colleagues. As a result I work especially well with clients many therapists avoid-aggressive, opinionated and highly verbal people, including men. My colleagues frequently refer friends and family members to me as well as difficult clients, in addition, I work well with couples. I keep abreast of current therapy systems and adapt my style to the needs of the client. I do not fall into the managed care trap of shortchanging the client in order to accommodate bureaucracy.

Your internal dialogue can feel so frustrating. Sometimes you’re not sure where the thoughts are coming from, but other times, the messages feel familiar. Maybe you can hear the echo of a family member’s hurtful words replaying in your head. Or maybe it’s a message you’ve heard infinite times from society about all the ways in which you are failing. Logically, you want to believe these thoughts aren’t true, but emotionally, you struggle to reject them.

Neuropsychological evaluations can be helpful at any age. Younger people who have difficulties with attention or executive functioning can benefit from diagnostic clarity (is it ADHD?) and the patterns of cognitive strengths and weaknesses that appears can guide treatment planning. An evaluation can also provide information about neurological concerns associated with illnesses such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease. For older adults, an evaluation can clarify if memory problems are a part of normal aging or something else like Alzheimer's disease.

I enjoy working with individuals with Bipolar Disorder to help them develop a treatment plan and to provide useful education about the disorder. Accurate information is critical in developing acceptance of the disorder and fighting stigma. Regarding infidelity, I work to help the patient(s) heal from the trauma and heartbreak of infidelity. Managing anger or obsessive thoughts, learning to be vulnerable again, and developing forgiveness are important goals for the betrayed spouse, whether separating or reconciling. Rebuilding trust, adhering to total honesty (the hallmark of healing), and being behaviorally accountable are tasks that I help the straying spouse develop.

We then take on addictive behaviors to avoid feeling reality. Difficulties in childhood often does not equip us with the skills of boundaries which is the only thing that helps to maintain a sense of who we are while remaining connected in a relationship.
