I work with individuals experiencing
anxiety
, depression, suicidal ideation, personality disorders, chronic stress, emotional disturbance, developmental trauma and other mental health issues. My goal in therapy is to cultivate a non-judgmental environment that will allow the patient to become aware of unhelpful behavior patterns that have developed overtime and work together to heal these wounded parts that created the patterns in the first place. My hope is to support the patient in imagining, together, what a different experience could be like.

I have specialized training in trauma, women’s issues, postpartum depression,
anxiety
disorders, spiritual abuse, and self-esteem/confidence.
I believe people want to live well, but often things happen that are out of our control. This can cause us to have difficulty managing stress, feel anxious, sad, empty, isolated, and even feel the effects on our physical body. My therapeutic approach focuses on providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can work together to identify beliefs that make it challenging to live the life you really want. We will explore life events that may have caused barriers between you and your goals, and together work to learn effective skills to use outside of therapy.

Are you facing the challenges of overwhelming life circumstances, depression,
anxiety
, grief or loss? Is life not working like it used to? Does it seem impossible to get back to--or move forward into--a place of peace? Often, the thinking patterns we have accumulated throughout our lives are operating below the surface and become the very things that get in the way of the life for which we long.

I hear many accounts of people, especially 25-45, feeling overwhelmed with busy lives, feeling numb, trapped or unfulfilled. Sometimes these feelings have lead to out of control behaviors, shame and guilt. Fear of letting others down or failing to meet the perceived standards of our culture can cause the best of us to feel trapped in a spin cycle. I try to provide my clients with a safe, non-judgmental, objective environment to face their
fears
, feelings and struggles in order to make the way for new thinking and more positive behaviors.

Problems in love and work, as well as symptoms of depression and
anxiety
, often lead people to seek therapy. Psychotherapy allows for the safe exploration of painful problems and resolution of conflicts underlying them. As trust develops, individuals explore their inner feelings related to anger, intimacy, and spirituality. Before treatment, these feelings are frequently blocked and unavailable in useful ways. Psychotherapy helps individuals view themselves in new ways. Psychotherapy can be an emotional education resulting in lasting changes. Therapy frequently ends increased personal freedom to make wise choices for oneself in the context of one's community.

My specialties include Play Therapy,
anxiety
, depression, child/adolescent issues, parent education, trauma and abuse, wellness and eating disorder recovery.
I believe that each individual, regardless of age, has the ability to grow and change given the proper tools and support. By providing a meaningful and nurturing environment, I lay the groundwork for personal insight and transformation to occur. I use a non-directive Person Centered Approach to counseling which often involves expressive arts and games. At times, when a more directive approach is appropriate, I use cognitive and/or behavioral techniques.

anxiety
, depression, trauma and PTSD, as well as personality disorders, and more.
It’s hard to get started and find someone you trust, someone you want to work with, who feels like a good fit. I’m guessing you’ve found yourself here because you're in pain, and there’s a part of you that thinks therapy could help. Maybe your life has become difficult to keep up with, you feel numb or totally overwhelmed. Maybe your thoughts race and you can't control them like you used to, or maybe you are struggling with relationships. While it's hard to get started, and you're likely hesitant or nervous about the prospect of opening up, you may be here because a part of you is ready.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
