I want to help you find freedom from emotional pain, anxiety, anger and
grief
.
I’m so glad you’re here. I know that beginning this journey is often the most difficult part, but you’ve made it to this point and that is something to be proud of. I would be honored to get to walk this path with you. I can’t promise you that it will always be easy, but I will do everything I can to support, encourage and reassure you while we challenge the thoughts, ideas and emotions that are weighing you down, together. You don’t have to continue to carry them on your own. I don't intend to tell you what to do or what you need. I believe you already have those answers.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have been working in the profession for over 5 years. Throughout this time, I have helped my clients become empowered to work through various life issues. My client experience ranges from Christian counseling, substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, work life/career challenges, overcoming
loss
and
grief
, self-worth, and life transitions. I believe it’s important to work with an end goal, and equally important to modify thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as necessary.

Common issues I assist clients with include: making desired change (anger management, substance abuse, reducing distress due to depression/anxiety); and assisting clients to navigate significant life transitions (terminal illness,
loss
,
grief
, aging issues, incarceration/re-entry, medical decline, and acceptance).
I am a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) practitioner. My primary goal as a therapist is to assist clients to reach their goals and to maximize happiness/well-being through making cognitive and behavioral changes. My secondary goal is to assist clients to have the necessary tools and skills to be their own therapist/self-help expert. I have been practicing, and studying the philosophical roots of, CBT since 2007. From 2007 to 2017, I worked as a CBT practitioner within the criminal justice system. During that time, I earned my Masters Degree (2016) and became licensed in Texas (2017).

As a clinician and published researcher, my specialization is helping people adjust to stressors resulting from anxiety, PTSD, depression, and traumatic
loss
.
Life Pushes, and when it does, it can feel as though your world has tilted on its axis. Stress brings with it storms: emotional, physical, relational, financial, spiritual, including storms unique to caring for aging parents. When these storms come, it helps to have someone to trust with your story; someone to hold the "flashlight" figuratively speaking, in order to help you identify your life values, navigate your personal goals, and develop tools so your energy is spent living your life instead of existing. It is my desire to help you develop ways to exchange your current stress for strength.

Are you facing the challenges of overwhelming life circumstances, depression, anxiety,
grief
or
loss
? Is life not working like it used to? Does it seem impossible to get back to--or move forward into--a place of peace? Often, the thinking patterns we have accumulated throughout our lives are operating below the surface and become the very things that get in the way of the life for which we long.

Clients will often say, “I went to a therapist and they just sat there and listened and nodded.” I’m more than a listen and nod therapist; I would describe myself as an action oriented and interactive therapist. I work with clients to identify strengths and focus in on negative self-talk that is creating a stagnant or distressing situation. Whether you are trying to overcome anxiety, master depression, cope with
loss
, or survive your child’s teen years you will reach your goals more rapidly by focusing on your strengths.

Do you believe you have reached too far a depth to come up from? Have you found yourself worrying over how you could reach "that good place" you used to be in? Think about this: EVERY person has felt similar feelings at one point in time. I seek to work with patients who struggle with mood disorders,
grief
and issues related to religion or spirituality. From the first time we meet together, you can expect us to give full attention to who YOU are and what YOU want. I believe that focusing on your goals and collaborating inside our therapeutic relationship is the greatest of our strengths as therapist and client.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
