I really enjoy the work that I do as a professional counselor. I like the fact that this work is my first choice of profession and not my fall back or secondary job. I have worked hard to continue training and improving my craft for over 20 years. I believe my core principle in doing this work is to focus on quality of work over quantity of clients. My goal is to provide the very best effort for each client/family I am fortunate enough to encounter to help them find their best version of themselves. I do not offer teletherapy. Only in-person sessions.

Perhaps you resonate with feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or weighed down by difficult experiences — whether from past trauma, ongoing stress, depression, or major life transitions. Many people come to therapy after trying for a long time to manage on their own.
I founded Expedition Behavioral Health because I view therapy as a guided journey — one that helps you step from anxious or depressed survival mode toward stability, clarity, and renewed direction. I do not believe therapy is about judgment or fixing you — it’s about helping you process what you’ve been carrying and supporting your move toward healing and resilience.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative task, where the patient takes an active role in working toward goals. A therapist helps with mental, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral difficulties. Psychotherapy is to help a person reach better understanding of problems and gain increased self-awareness. The days are long and lethargic. The headaches, backaches and physical pain are nothing compared to the darkness that is so oppressive. Then there are the moments where, like a wave, emotions from the past (a past you'd rather forget) wash over you unannounced. Things you thought you had hidden away or forgotten about pop up when you least expect, and least want them. Family and friends throw words around like lazy, flakey, and unpredictable; or perhaps even more official-sounding terms like bipolar, depressed, or PTSD. Right now, it feels like there won’t be an end, like there is no hope. It doesn't have to.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
