I work with adolescents, adult individuals, and families on issues ranging from communication, emotional management, defiance, depression, ADHD, decision making, respect for authority, parenting approaches, sexual development, pornography addiction, and grief healing.
I really enjoy the work that I do as a professional counselor. I like the fact that this work is my first choice of profession and not my fall back or secondary job. I have worked hard to continue training and improving my craft for over 20 years. I believe my core principle in doing this work is to focus on quality of work over quantity of clients. My goal is to provide the very best effort for each client/family I am fortunate enough to encounter to help them find their best version of themselves. I do not offer teletherapy. Only in-person sessions.

Pressure makes diamonds and Emeralds! Remember, it’s all about your frame of mind. Stay grounded and be positive. Remember there is purpose in your pain. Grow from your discomfort, trim your sails up when the winds of adversity come. Be mindful and start every day with a reset button and start the day on a positive note. Make your bed and live that day in present moment awareness. “You can do it !” Get a hobby, keep your routine and stay busy. Use your coping skills. Journal your positives. Set firm boundaries and 'SMART' goals. These are just a few things that my clients have needed and received in previous counseling sessions.

I have experience working with young adults and adults facing a variety of issues, some of which include addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, codependency and anger management.
I have training and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a therapy that allows for processing of past experiences that have caused distress. By using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tones, etc), we allow the brain to naturally process information and relieve distress.

There are always options, but it does not always feel like that. It is freedom when we learn that we do not have to operate the way we have been, the way that is costing us pieces of ourselves. Whether it is family, work, or friendship relationships, we do not have to be bound by the way things have been and others' expectations of us. It is a joy for me to walk with clients through complicated situations to find connection with others while letting go of codependence.

As a parent, are you concerned that your child does not seem like their usual self, with a loss of focus and emotional control? We can work together to create life skills and build on their strengths. Your child, not the problem or behavior, is the center of my focus for interventions.

I specialize in working with teens and adults navigating loss, major life transitions, relationship challenges, and addiction.
At 10:23 I understand the importance of cultivating resilience and fostering healthy relationships to achieve our best life. Therapy doesn’t work when clients feel talked down to, rushed, or misunderstood. Many teens and adults I work with have tried therapy before and felt it didn’t really fit. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas, I bring both clinical training and lived experience into the therapy room. This allows me to connect in a way that feels genuine, grounded, and practical—especially for teens and young adults who are skeptical of therapy or unsure where to start.

Most importantly, I personally have overcome my addictions and destructive behaviors of the past and now live a more healthy & purposeful life.
The experiences throughout our lives help to shape and mold us. At times, the stories we tell ourselves keep us shackled to the limiting beliefs we become anchored to. Engaging in a safe and empathetic conversation can help in uncovering the root of these unhealthy beliefs/habits and propel you forward with better meaning and understanding as you embark on a more hopeful path. This journey need not be traveled alone and through counseling, can be effective in remapping your life and how you perceive it.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
