trauma
survivors, depression, anxiety, shame, and boundaries.
I am an LPC Associate who believes in trusting the process of moment-by-moment, daily transformation. In a safe environment and relaxed body, we can explore emotions understand defenses, and notice the response in our bodies so that we can grow and heal. I believe in human resilience and seek to provide the resources, support, and courage to move through what life dishes out. I find healthy ways to integrate challenging experiences into our daily lives. I help widen the space between stimulus and response (Viktor Frankl), empowering people to choose the response that will enable them to be their best versions.

I am trained in EMDR and several other modalities to support individuals working through a history of
trauma
and life’s stressors.
Throughout my life, I’ve had many experiences that contributed to my love of counseling and my role as a therapist, they have led to a passionate belief that everyone’s story is important and giving a voice to those stories is invaluable. I began my career as a teacher in the U.S. and abroad, and have over 15 years of experience in international non-profit work. I grew to love hearing other’s stories and saw the healing power of true relationships. I eventually returned to school to become a counselor and turned my passion into a path for healing, and I consider it an honor to do the work I do.

I am here to help! As a counselor, I specialize in
trauma
, depression, anxiety and abuse.
Life is hard! Whether it be stressors of everyday life, family or marital issues, school or work-related problems or because of recent or past
trauma
/grief, life can become messy. It gets hard not only for oneself, but also for loved ones or those around us. The reality is it happens to ALL of us. Sometimes all we need is for someone to listen with compassion and without judgment. Sometimes we require resources or coping strategies to help navigate the obstacles life throws at us. No matter what it is we need, therapy is the first step. Therapy equips us with the tools that we need to face whatever hardships we have.

I have worked with individuals with many struggles such as depression, substance use, anxiety,
trauma
, and bipolar disorder. My niche is in issues such as life transitions, cultural identity, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and self-compassion. I have an affinity towards multicultural, bi/multiracial, minority, and TCK individuals. TCKs, or third culture kids, are individuals who did not grow up in one or both of their parents’ passport country. These are individuals such as military kids, children of diplomats, emigrants, and refugees.

I work with people who are struggling with
trauma
, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and other emotional/relational difficulties, particularly those struggles that are long-standing and unchanging. While symptom relief is the initial focus, my goal is to also help people understand why they began struggling in the first place, with the hopes the symptoms do not return. Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy can help address wounds related to a person's family of origin or other relationships. Each treatment is tailored to the individual rather than a "one size fits all" approach.

Sometimes, children and adults experience
trauma
, and this can affect their ability to cope and function.
Children and adolescents often struggle with the same difficult feelings and emotions that adults do, but they have limited ways of expressing themselves. Similarly, parents can find themselves at a loss to reach their child, often leading to stress, anxiety, and disconnection. I have spent years working with children, teens, and their families in order to create healthy coping skills and foster healing, growth, and connection. I am passionate about helping children reach their full potential in a safe environment to explore their thoughts and feelings and develop necessary skills to thrive.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
