Have you been told you’re too sensitive or too emotional? You don't understand why your emotions feel so intense, why things bother you so much, or why you overthink and overanalyze. You wonder why life often feels so overwhelming and overstimulating. You think that if you could just be more like everyone else, life would be easier and things would improve. You long for close relationships but even that feels difficult and complicated at times. You want to understand why you are so different and you don't want life to feel so hard.

Do you constantly second guess yourself or find there are thoughts you can’t seem to let go of? Do you experience lingering
grief
or need to improve your relationships? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then DLR Counseling Group is for you. It’s a fact. We all carry long-held beliefs that influence our lives. Oftentimes, they were seared into our minds and hearts when we were children. The positive ones cause us to move forward. The negative ones hinder us through fear, anger, self-doubt, hopelessness, or silence. They alter our thoughts about love, race, relationships,
death
, trauma, and much more.

Does your child struggle to manage anxiety or racing thoughts? Have they found it difficult to develop healthy relationships and cope with stress? As children and adolescents grow, therapy can be a beneficial tool to help them learn healthy coping skills and to be able to experience a non-judgmental space where they can freely express themselves. Some children may also need help with processing difficult family dynamics or past childhood trauma.

We live in a rapidly changing world fraught with many obstacles and adversities that challenge us and often leave us feeling defeated, insecure, uncertain, and/or inadequate.
Grief
, hopelessness, and apathy are prevalent in so many lives, blurring the ability to see happiness and blunting the presence of hope. Worse still is the growing sense of disconnection, loneliness, and (even) emotional isolation that many experience in a world that constantly whispers promises of bringing us closer together. If you are facing adversities, you don’t have to go at it alone.

Life is hard! Whether it be stressors of everyday life, family or marital issues, school or work-related problems or because of recent or past trauma/
grief
, life can become messy. It gets hard not only for oneself, but also for loved ones or those around us. The reality is it happens to ALL of us. Sometimes all we need is for someone to listen with compassion and without judgment. Sometimes we require resources or coping strategies to help navigate the obstacles life throws at us. No matter what it is we need, therapy is the first step. Therapy equips us with the tools that we need to face whatever hardships we have.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
