Throughout my life I’ve had many experiences that contributed to my love of counseling and my role as a therapist. They have led to a passionate belief that everyone’s story is important and giving a voice to those stories is invaluable. I began my career as a teacher in the U.S. and abroad, and have over 15 years of experience in international non-profit work. I grew to love hearing other’s stories and saw the healing power of true relationships. I eventually returned to school to become a counselor and turned my passion into a path for healing, and I consider it an honor to do the work I do.

You may find yourself constantly second-guessing your reactions, walking on eggshells, or feeling emotionally exhausted after years or relational tension or conflict. Many people in this place don't immediately identify their experiences as abuse. They just know something feels off, unsafe, and unsustainable. You feel like you don't even recognize yourself anymore or understand how you let this abuse happen. In our work together we can regain a sense of normal and understand how what you are experiencing is a trauma response. We will recenter your nervous system and explore childhood messages given to you that impact you still today

You’ve tried getting support before, but something important was missed. You or your loved one may have been treated for anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, or relationship struggles, yet no one ever named the root issue—autism. When traditional therapy tries to address the symptoms of autism without understanding the underlying cause, we can be left feeling defeated, exhausted, and ashamed. Hi, I'm Mary. I’m an autistic therapist who specializes in supporting autistic teens, adults, and families. My work is grounded in helping you make sense of your experiences and finally receiving therapy that fits your brain.

I am an SMU counseling graduate.I have worked several years with mentally ill clients having Bipolar, Depression, Anxiety and Schizophrenia. I have also worked with at risk youth, Gifted and Talented, autism, and children going through adjustments. I use a mixture of EMDR and ACT. I believe that we have much less control over our thoughts and feelings than we would like to believe so my focus with clients is action because our behaviors are one thing that we have significant control over. If you want to feel differently, you have to behave differently, and I will help you create a plan to do just that!

I administer psychological testing and assessments for individuals ages 6-64. The process typically begins with a referral from a medical professional, therapist or other healthcare provider. Psychological testing/assessments help contribute necessary clinical information for differential diagnosis including but not limited to the assessment of the severity and pervasiveness of symptoms; and ruling out potential comorbidities. Results help formulate/reformulate a comprehensive and optimally effective treatment plan along with setting appropriate recommendations or accommodations.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
