Do you feel disconnected in your
relationship
? Do you feel stuck in this season with little hope of change? Are you able to be honest with yourself and your
partner
? It can be discouraging, as we all have a basic human need to be known and connected with others. I believe as we begin to discover, accept, and value our strengths, weaknesses, wants, and dreams, we are more equipped to accept and value our
partner
's. Taking time to understand ourselves enables us to communicate our needs more effectively and meet others needs more readily.

My ideal client is someone who struggles with anxiety, anger management, and
relationship
issues. They maybe be feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and unsure about how to handle their emotions in healthy ways. They may also be struggling with relationships, whether it's with friends, family, or romantic partners. My client's primary need is to learn skills and techniques to manage their anxiety and anger in a healthy way. They want to feel more in control of their emotions, and they want to improve their relationships with others. They may also want to work on communication skills and building self-confidence.

My goal is to build a safe, warm, and supportive
relationship
with you from which you can foster change.
We live in a rapidly changing world fraught with many obstacles and adversities that challenge us and often leave us feeling defeated, insecure, uncertain, and/or inadequate. Grief, hopelessness, and apathy are prevalent in so many lives, blurring the ability to see happiness and blunting the presence of hope. Worse still is the growing sense of disconnection, loneliness, and (even) emotional isolation that many experience in a world that constantly whispers promises of bringing us closer together. If you are facing adversities, you don’t have to go at it alone.

Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or
relationship
issues, I'll meet you where you're at.
You’ve taken the “right” steps to work towards your goals, yet it feels like you never get ahead. You’re a go-getter, a rule follower, a should-be success story, but you feel stuck. Behind closed doors, you’re coming apart at the seams and you just want a break! You think you should feel happy, yet some days it’s hard to find the motivation to even get out of bed. Every day is draining, and you wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” Your relationships are strained (because let’s face it, your parents weren’t exactly the best model for how to communicate), and nothing is going the way that you had planned.

All
couples
have arguments. What matters is what happens when you and your
spouse
disagree. Do you go round and round with no resolution? Or does one of you stop talking when the other gets frustrated, then you both stop talking? If so, you may wonder if your
relationship
can be fixed. I have good news. Your
relationship
is not broken, but it is caught in a negative cycle. This negative cycle keeps you from being able to communicate, resolve conflict, and discuss problems. If your
relationship
is struggling, it is probably because you are caught in a negative cycle. I want to help you and your
spouse
overcome the negative cycle.

I also enjoy working with consensual non-monogamous
couples
and groups, practicing attorneys, and teen parents.
In the midst of difficult times and challenges, we find opportunity. I believe that the moments we are pushed out of our comfort zone allow for personal growth and healing. I pull from several different approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I find that this creates a unique counseling experience for each client and provides a collaborative environment to explore.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
