I completed my 4 day Externship on Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples on Sep/Oct of 2022.
I am an LPC Associate who believes in trusting the process of moment-by-moment, daily transformation. In a safe environment and relaxed body, we can explore emotions understand defenses, and notice the response in our bodies so that we can grow and heal. I believe in human resilience and seek to provide the resources, support, and courage to move through what life dishes out. I find healthy ways to integrate challenging experiences into our daily lives. I help widen the space between stimulus and response (Viktor Frankl), empowering people to choose the response that will enable them to be their best versions.

All couples have arguments. What matters is what happens when you and your spouse disagree. Do you go round and round with no resolution? Or does one of you stop talking when the other gets frustrated, then you both stop talking? If so, you may wonder if your relationship can be fixed. I have good news. Your relationship is not broken, but it is caught in a negative cycle. This negative cycle keeps you from being able to communicate, resolve conflict, and discuss problems. If your relationship is struggling, it is probably because you are caught in a negative cycle. I want to help you and your spouse overcome the negative cycle.

Do you feel disconnected in your relationship ? Do you feel stuck in this season with little hope of change? Are you able to be honest with yourself and your partner ? It can be discouraging, as we all have a basic human need to be known and connected with others. I believe as we begin to discover, accept, and value our strengths, weaknesses, wants, and dreams, we are more equipped to accept and value our partner 's. Taking time to understand ourselves enables us to communicate our needs more effectively and meet others needs more readily.

I believe in meeting clients where they are at emotionally and helping them and their parents reach their goals. Through a positive relationship with my client I try to help them gain insight into their desire to belong and have significance. I continually work to create a supportive environment for children in order for the child to gain insight and understanding into their unique world. With insight the child and therapist can collaborate to reduce the child's current stressors possibly leading to problematic behaviors.

Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, I'll meet you where you're at.
You’ve taken the “right” steps to work towards your goals, yet it feels like you never get ahead. You’re a go-getter, a rule follower, a should-be success story, but you feel stuck. Behind closed doors, you’re coming apart at the seams and you just want a break! You think you should feel happy, yet some days it’s hard to find the motivation to even get out of bed. Every day is draining, and you wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” Your relationships are strained (because let’s face it, your parents weren’t exactly the best model for how to communicate), and nothing is going the way that you had planned.

Life can be challenging in a number of different ways. We set goals and encounter obstacles. We have dreams but fall short. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I work with individuals, couples , and families to help them understand their challenges and work toward achieving their goals. This includes working with high-school aged adolescents and adults. And because each situation is unique, I begin the counseling relationship by listening carefully. I want to hear your story and meet you where you are.

I graduated from Southern Methodist University where I was trained to provide individual, group, couples , and family therapy to adolescents and adults.
I have worked with individuals with many struggles such as depression, substance use, anxiety, trauma, and bipolar disorder. My niche is in issues such as life transitions, cultural identity, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and self-compassion. I have an affinity towards multicultural, bi/multiracial, minority, and TCK individuals. TCKs, or third culture kids, are individuals who did not grow up in one or both of their parents’ passport country. These are individuals such as military kids, children of diplomats, emigrants, and refugees.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
