Do you know the feeling when you are carrying weight on your shoulders, attempting to live up to an expectation that was written for you, as you are not wanting to let yourself or those around you down? Do you feel as if society is expecting you to maintain a perfect lifestyle, leading to an unsurpassable amount of anxiety, which in return has begun impacting your relationship with yourself and others. You are fighting a battle of self-worth which has left you feeling empty and overwhelmed with fear and anxiety.

I work from an attachment perspective and value the therapeutic relationship as an important vehicle for healing and change.
Throughout my life, I’ve had many experiences that contributed to my love of counseling and my role as a therapist, they have led to a passionate belief that everyone’s story is important and giving a voice to those stories is invaluable. I began my career as a teacher in the U.S. and abroad, and have over 15 years of experience in international non-profit work. I grew to love hearing other’s stories and saw the healing power of true relationships. I eventually returned to school to become a counselor and turned my passion into a path for healing, and I consider it an honor to do the work I do.

I specialize in working with people who feel disconnected from themselves. For many reasons, you may have found ways to protect yourself from painful feelings or people who might hurt you, and those protective behaviors may have led you to now feeling disconnected from yourself. I believe that your mental health struggles aren't pathological. What I see is ways you have adapted to survive difficulties in life that have in turn created challenges for you like relationship issues, struggles with emotional intimacy, anxiety and panic attacks, career burnout, and/or using food or alcohol in ways that make you feel ashamed.

My goal is to build a safe, warm, and supportive relationship from which you can embark and navigate this deep exploration of self.
We live a world that often meets us with obstacles and adversities; things that challenge us and often leave us feeling insecure, uncertain and unaccompanied. Grief, hopelessness, and apathy are prevalent for so many, blurring the ability to see happiness and diminishing our hope. Worse still, the growing sense of disconnection, loneliness, and (even) emotional isolation that emerges from a world that constantly whispers promises of bringing us together. The good news is, you don’t have to go at it alone.

I believe in meeting clients where they are at emotionally and helping them and their parents reach their goals. Through a positive relationship with my client I try to help them gain insight into their desire to belong and have significance. I continually work to create a supportive environment for children in order for the child to gain insight and understanding into their unique world. With insight the child and therapist can collaborate to reduce the child's current stressors possibly leading to problematic behaviors.

Do you feel disconnected in your relationship ? Do you feel stuck in this season with little hope of change? Are you able to be honest with yourself and your partner ? It can be discouraging, as we all have a basic human need to be known and connected with others. I believe as we begin to discover, accept, and value our strengths, weaknesses, wants, and dreams, we are more equipped to accept and value our partner 's. Taking time to understand ourselves enables us to communicate our needs more effectively and meet others needs more readily.

My ideal client is someone who struggles with anxiety, anger management, and relationship issues. They maybe be feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and unsure about how to handle their emotions in healthy ways. They may also be struggling with relationships, whether it's with friends, family, or romantic partners. My client's primary need is to learn skills and techniques to manage their anxiety and anger in a healthy way. They want to feel more in control of their emotions, and they want to improve their relationships with others. They may also want to work on communication skills and building self-confidence.

Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, I'll meet you where you're at.
You’ve taken the “right” steps to work towards your goals, yet it feels like you never get ahead. You’re a go-getter, a rule follower, a should-be success story, but you feel stuck. Behind closed doors, you’re coming apart at the seams and you just want a break! You think you should feel happy, yet some days it’s hard to find the motivation to even get out of bed. Every day is draining, and you wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” Your relationships are strained (because let’s face it, your parents weren’t exactly the best model for how to communicate), and nothing is going the way that you had planned.

Life can be challenging in a number of different ways. We set goals and encounter obstacles. We have dreams but fall short. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I work with individuals, couples , and families to help them understand their challenges and work toward achieving their goals. This includes working with high-school aged adolescents and adults. And because each situation is unique, I begin the counseling relationship by listening carefully. I want to hear your story and meet you where you are.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
