On the surface it looks like
anger
or constant irritation, but beneath the turbulent current of destructive behaviors are emotions like sadness and grief, pain, sorrow and fear.
Anger
is much more preferable if a lot of your life you have felt powerless or helpless. As you might be figuring out, the power of intense, uncontrollable
anger
only leads to self-destruction and can deeply hurts others. Self-destruction can look a lot like being stuck, resistance to change even when miserable, using substances, or being undisciplined. It can feel lonely.

In my practice of over 20 years, I have treated all varieties of issues from depression and anxiety, PTSD and dissociative disorders, physical pain, troubled or broken relationships, grief,
anger
, trauma incidents, bullying, troubled parent-child issues, LGBTQ issues, and all types of addictions.
Have you had a situation happen that has caused deep emotional or physical pain? Has the pain been pushing you to the breaking point? Is your desire to get out of the pain but you are afraid that it can't get better? I can tell you from experience that ignoring it doesn't help but I do know that there are lots of strategies to get through it. I’d like the opportunity to show you how to turn your breakdown into a BREAKTHROUGH!

Have you ever felt helpless, lost, or confused as a parent? Felt overwhelmed by the daily decisions we face as parents compounded by the number of differing opinions on how to be a good parent? Alongside the intense love a parent feels for their child can also come worry, fear, and a deep desire to do everything that we can to nurture their development. Watching your child struggle at school, be rejected by friends, hurt themselves, or explode with
anger
can feel like an open wound that will not heal. A journey this important should not be undertaken alone.

You’ve taken the “right” steps to work towards your goals, yet it feels like you never get ahead. You’re a go-getter, a rule follower, a should-be success story, but you feel stuck. Behind closed doors, you’re coming apart at the seams and you just want a break! You think you should feel happy, yet some days it’s hard to find the motivation to even get out of bed. Every day is draining, and you wonder, “What’s wrong with me?” Your relationships are strained (because let’s face it, your parents weren’t exactly the best model for how to communicate), and nothing is going the way that you had planned.

I have worked with individuals with many struggles such as depression, substance use, anxiety, trauma, and bipolar disorder. My niche is in issues such as life transitions, cultural identity, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and self-compassion. I have an affinity towards multicultural, bi/multiracial, minority, and TCK individuals. TCKs, or third culture kids, are individuals who did not grow up in one or both of their parents’ passport country. These are individuals such as military kids, children of diplomats, emigrants, and refugees.

Life is hard! Whether it be stressors of everyday life, family or marital issues, school or work-related problems or because of recent or past trauma/grief, life can become messy. It gets hard not only for oneself, but also for loved ones or those around us. The reality is it happens to ALL of us. Sometimes all we need is for someone to listen with compassion and without judgment. Sometimes we require resources or coping strategies to help navigate the obstacles life throws at us. No matter what it is we need, therapy is the first step. Therapy equips us with the tools that we need to face whatever hardships we have.

You are created for connection. Each of us wants a place where we belong and feel most ourselves. Sometimes, even in families and romantic partnerships, loneliness and feelings of inadequacy can creep in causing you to feel insecure in your relationships. You rehearse your perceived mistakes and fall into a cycle of isolation and negative emotions. The more you fail, the more you internalize your failures and feel hopelessness and discouragement. I want to help you break free of hopelessness and experience a sustaining joy and peace in who you are, your purpose in life, and the value you bring to your relationships.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
