I also enjoy working with consensual non-monogamous couples and groups, practicing attorneys, and
teen
parents.
In the midst of difficult times and challenges, we find opportunity. I believe that the moments we are pushed out of our comfort zone allow for personal growth and healing. I pull from several different approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I find that this creates a unique counseling experience for each client and provides a collaborative environment to explore.

Play is the natural language of children, and play therapy is the best way for a child or
teen
express themselves and develop skills for self-regulation and emotional control.
Children and adolescents often struggle with the same difficult feelings and emotions that adults do, but they have limited ways of expressing themselves. Similarly, parents can find themselves at a loss to reach their child, often leading to stress, anxiety, and disconnection. I have spent years working with children, teens, and their families in order to create healthy coping skills and foster healing, growth, and connection. I am passionate about helping children reach their full potential in a safe environment to explore their thoughts and feelings and develop necessary skills to thrive.

Living with your own personal struggles can be defeating. I understand how impossible it can feel to carry on every day. I also understand how difficult it can be to find someone who can be completely objective and supportive to your struggles, especially the ones that are more difficult to talk about. You do not have to feel that way. Any person and/or struggle is invited to see me. I am located at SEVN Therapy, which is a collection of therapists gathered to help our community. From the moment you walk through our doors, to the end of your session, we want you to feel welcomed, loved, and excited to come back for more.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
