08/15/22 Accepting new clients As a counselor and a retired cop, I have dealt with a wide range of tragedies that can drive a person to seek counseling. Life is messy, and my background will help me understand what you have been through. Trauma is an emotional injury, and like many physical injuries it can heal if you tend to it properly. Even if you haven’t suffered an extreme event, you may feel stuck and be unable to move forward. I retired from policing so that I could more directly help people put their lives back together. Having bad things happen shouldn’t keep you from being able to have a good life.

I am also a certified Crisis and Trauma Response Specialist, Forensic Mental Health Evaluator, Anger Management Specialist, and Hypnotherapist.
There is no shame in seeking assistance when things just aren't going well and occasionally, everyone needs help. Whether an adolescent or adult, you must want to be helped, willing to help yourself, and embrace change. I work best with individuals who accept and welcome an honest and direct approach. I tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. I also work with couples and families who need an outsider's objective perspective to improving communication and relationships. I believe in rational, logical choice and decision making. Seeing me for assistance when possibly required is a rational and logical choice.

No matter what trauma you have gone through.
You deserve to feel seen and heard. As a therapist one of my goals is to make sure that all of my clients know that their beautifully broken story matters. I have extensive experience working with clients with eating disorders, as well as clients with trauma , depression, and anxiety. Sadly, so many clinicians are not adequately educated when it comes to eating disorders and this prevents clients from getting the help they so desperately deserve. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate under the supervision of Lauri Baker Brown, LPC-S, LMFT, CEDS.

You matter. Your life matters. Your story matters. As a woman, any form of rejection or betrayal can emotionally dismantle you. I know. I've been there too. If you are trying to navigate the social/emotional journies of infidelity, divorce, intimacy anorexia, or finding your purpose and calling after a life-altering interruption, I would love to walk with you on your journey. I've battled Jezebel in my marriage and I am also partner betrayal trauma certified through AASAT. I'd love to help you find your lioness roar and remember who you are in Christ. God designed you to slay our enemies and no weapon formed against you can prosper.

I have experience working in a hospital setting, as well as with military veterans and clients experiencing trauma , intimacy, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar, family conflict, job dissatisfaction, drug abuse, suicidality and body image issues.
I have a passion for learning how the mind works and how it interacts with many other systems (family, work, body, spirit) to create the individual as a whole. This helps me identify the power emotions and thought have over one’s life. My approach follows the idea of achieving a stage where my client no longer qualifies for a diagnosis.

Other times, we may focus on trauma processing using various interventions based on my training for PTSD .
Many of my clients have experienced a traumatic event(s) such as sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or neglect. The last ones can be harder to define because invalidation is a common form of emotional neglect that is hard to label. Despite what the trauma is or if it falls into one of those categories exactly, if it affects you, then it matters. Clients come to me with confusion and emotional pain that I help them sift through and connect with in order to heal and return to their new normal version of life. I welcome all clients from all walks of life, races, cultures, genders, and preferences.

****Currently Accepting New Clients **** Meeting the Clients where they are… Searching out and seeking help from a mental health professional can be scary and overwhelming. I believe the key to building a strong therapeutic alliance is meeting the client where they are. As a therapist my role is to provide non-judgmental unconditional positive regard, to help my client with exploring and overcoming life’s challenges. The therapeutic process is meant to be an empowering and enlightening experience. As a therapist, I meet my client in a dark, confusing place and we journey together to a place of peace and inner well-being.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
