I am a trauma therapist who utilizes effective trauma treatment therapies. I practice using EMDR, Somatic Experiencing Therapy. All approaches work with the mind, body, and emotions to help support the movement through trauma. Our bodies are holding containers that will hold onto trauma until there is a pathway for release. If you are finding yourself stuck without movement, traditional therapies not working, maybe this is a new path to check into. I am ready to work alongside you to help you get to where you would like to be.

Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can control how we respond to certain situations. In many ways, being human is our biggest challenge. We have complex thought processes, feelings, and practices of reacting to the world we live in. Therefore, our personal experiences and ways of relating to our world are difficult to understand - even by ourselves! When faced with hardship, trauma, uncertainty, and change, these complexities become even more challenging to know.

My strengths: Addiction, Substance Use Disorders, ACT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy-DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-CBT, Motivational Interviewing-MI.
Coming to therapy can be scary. Most of us have been there. My goal is to help you walk that scary path and find helpful, hopeful, and successful ways to walk that path. You are not broken, I can't "fix" you. I am not that powerful by any measure. My role IS to walk with you, help you find ways to heal and mend that which has caused pain so that YOU can go forward and grow and be that authentic person you so desire to be. We can do this together. Sometimes we just need another perspective, someone who will listen completely, let you know you are heard and deeply valued.

You are NOT broken. You are hurting and you are tired of being so tired. I think sometimes we believe that we have to FEEL confident before we can show action. My very favorite saying is " show up, even when you are scared. Show up. " Do you feel like you or your partner are wondering how you ever fell in love to begin with? Does it feel like you are silently screaming and no one hears you while you walk around with a fake smile? Does it feel like you are white knuckling it through your day and hoping no one ever discovers "the real you?" Do you remember who are you with without anxiety snapping at your heels? You are not alone.

I have ten years of experience in the Substance Abuse field and fully understand the link between trauma and substance abuse.
If you are constantly comparing yourself to others and feeling inadequate, have difficulties in maintaining healthy relationships, experience overwhelming emotions that can be difficult to manage, live in the shadow of shame or just have a general sense of “there’s something wrong with me”, there is a strong possibility you’ve experienced some trauma or dysfunction as you developed into an adult. Trauma that occurs in adulthood can also create an array of both physical and emotional symptoms. I'm here to help.

One of the greatest challenges of life is finding peace within yourself, when one is challenged by depression, anxiety, abuse or trauma that peace can sometimes feel unattainable. This is why finding the "Right" therapist can be a task in itself. As for myself, I believe that "Normal" only exist on a washing machine & finding the "Right" therapist can be just as important as finding the perfect time to pursue that peace.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
